The best NES games that are actually on VC are probably Kirby's Adventure, Legend of Zelda, Castlevania III, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario Bros, River City Ransom or Ninja Gaiden. I would go for one of these.

Edit: My personal suggestion would be Legend of Zelda. Countless hours can be played on this game, you get to see the origins of the series and its still one of the best games ever made to this day. Plus you get a second quest after finishing the first game. A runner up if you have played it, get Kirby's Adventure, which is probably right behind Legend of Zelda for the title of 'best' NES game.

I vote Ice Hockey. All sorts of fun if you've got a buddy.

You have 4 man squads and you can alter them between 3 types.

Heavies who can bump everyone else. Lights who are really fast but are eaisly checked... and then the medium guys.

The classes are really well balanced and you can put any mix you want on your team.
