Forums - Sony - Sony and their proprietary formats can kiss my a...

Sony's portable devices seem to have this issue. If the PSP Go had a UMD drive and had install system like the 360, I would be totally there. I think the design and ergonomics are really nice.

As far as the PS3 goes (which is Sony), it's probably the most non-proprietary friendly system in gaming history.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

They make the new revision because it's smaller(cheaper to make and consumes less power). It does cost more than their competitor, but not that much more - It's likely that over time they may be able to sell the micro cards cheaper than the pro duos. I think they should have kept the old model Memory stick pro duo also, but it didn't happen. All memory card formats are continuously upgraded and improved over the years, so I don't think you can say Sonys the only one not using old formats.

I don't think Sony was trying to sell to current PSP owners really all that much, so they didn't factor in using the old memory stick, they chose to use the newer smaller one, I don't really see why you'd get another PSP if you already had the old model especially at $250. The old psp fits in my pocket fine most of the time.

I assume there's a degree of this in the title what i get that's almost to say 'see Sony does it too, so MS isn't doing anything that wrong' If you want to know expensive proprietry memory and why MS gets reamed on this lately - look at this (off amazon):
120gb 360 hard drive - $134.50
320gb PS3 compatible Hitachi hard drive - $59 ($75 Difference and 2.67x more storage)

Yeah Sony really was greedy on this one. Sorry for your loss.

sony made a mistake on the psp-go

VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

What's wrong with M2 though... I've been using it on my phone for ages... I kind'a prefer the smaller/less bulky format rather than the old SD ones. And I found out they were a lot more sturdy and reliable. My SD cards always wear and tear fast... especially my trancend ones :/

I am a Gamer... I play games and not consoles. I have a PC and Console on which I game... I like games. End of Story!

Im sorry if I sound a little pissed here...but thats cause I am.

So I bought a PSP Go today.

$250 is quite steep but I figured it could replace my current PSP for gaming, my Zune for music and video playing and I guess its worth 50 bucks if I sell those 2 for 100 bucks each.

Yeah 16 GB is quite small for my audio collection alone, as I have 60 GB of music, let alone my gaming and videos on top. But not to worry, I own an 8GB and 4 GB memory stick that I use with my current PSP.

But hold on...PSP go does not support memory stick!?!? It needs memory stick micro...

Thats a very greedy move Sony. Memory stick was introduced what 4-5 years ago? And its just starting to come down in price and cost similar to an SD card memory... So I'm supposed to spend another 100 bucks on extra memory when I own a Sony proprietary memory card? Complete BS.

PSP Go is on its way back to Future Shop. They can sell their recycled hardware to someone else...

memory stick micro its old i think 2006 sony ericsson phones started to use it.

it smaller, thats why probable they used it.

they now support both micro and m2 cards in the same slot, not sure about the psp go.

How many songs are you "really" going to listen to? I have music (disc quality), videos, pictures (about 50), and 2 PSX game (Jumping Flash! 1, 2) on my memory stick, and my entire PS3 back-up save data, along with other back up files... I have about 230 something songs... But, I LISTEN to them. You can't even listen to 60 GB of music in a day.. Your battery wont last that long. Saving aside 7MB for a song you listen to once every 3 weeks is pointless.. Learn how to better manage your stuff, or, go back to zune and psp.

You're not going to listen to 60 GB of music.. If I can make a 1GB memory stick to be so flexible, I'm sure you can make 16 GB work fine. You just have to decide what music you'll really actually listen to... I still have 31 MB of free space on my card.

Just choose what you actually want to hear. Don't keep the songs you've not listened to in 2 months, there's no need for that.
