"Hardcare" or according to nintendo "core" gamers are gamers that play any game that has an sense of a challege or story line. They also purchase a good amount of games. Hardcores are the people who are whiling to play games from Portal to Final Fantasy to Zelda but tries to avoid casual games that are pointless like Wii Sports and Wii Play. There are actually two levels of hardcore, lite hardcore and heavy hardcore. Lite Hardcores do everything listed above. Heavy Hardcores are the gamers that are in clans and play in amateur leagues like CAL and professional leagues like CPL .

I'm a heavy hardcore ie professional gamer.

All of the 'hardcore' gamers I know love Wii Sports, even the ones who hate the Wii and everything it stands for.

John Q. Gamer has only played one game in his life. That game is Wii Play. He's played it for over 9,000 hours. He competes in (and wins) Wii Play tournaments all the time.

Is John Q. Gamer hardcore or casual?

 hmm.. ok maybe i should change that to will paly casual games but dislike their general effects on the industry. Frankly I dont mind playing Wii Sports at a party but I enjoyed getting the wad of cash back for trading in my Wii even more then I did enjoy playing it. 

Excuse me ssj12, but Wii Sports carries some challenge in the form of getting all the platinum medals :P

 not really my friend and I got all the platinums in one night. Bowling was the easiest. All you have to do i figure out the 9999 pin strike glitch. 

 no thats called having no live like the WoW nublets. And Wii Play tournaments..the Wii isnt even supported by any big named online leagues, brawl has a better chance. And Jonh is a casual-specilized ie he finds the small time tournaments that cant win him past $100 a pop even with gambling on the side. I've played tournaments with $10K sitting on the winners table and max bet was up to $2850.

sorry ssj12, you're pretty narrow minded yourself.

"Hardcore" is a term that people use to make themselves feel better than other people. There are plenty of "hardcore gamers" that are happy with Nintendo, that like the Wii, that don't own a PS3 or an Xox360, that enjoy Wii Sports, etc etc. Just because you have a particular opinion and you like to call yourself "hardcore" doesn't mean that everyone else agrees with you.

So stop applying your narrow-minded stereotypes to gamers. There's no "categories" that you can fit Wii gamers into, that you can create casual, hardcore, whatever gamers. We're all gamers and we all enjoy different things.
