Forums - Microsoft - MS reply to 100 Dollar Live, NPD Results & claim their games look the best

on topic,

i think most of you are overreacting. live will most likely raise its price someday just due to inflation. this guy basically confirmed that a price increase isn't coming in the near term which is as much of a confirmation as anyone can make.

I agree with that.

He was just being reasonable, if it comes to prices alone they can't say anything for sure for more than few months ahead.

Uhm, bragging about accessory attach rates is a bit stupid when your competitor allows their users to use any 3rd party harddrive and any bluetooth headset and includes wireless in the box. Its like saying 'Yes, we force our customer to buy our overpriced monopolized accessories and that proves how good we are. Our competitor lets their users buy bigger and cheaper hard drives from any manufacturer, which just proves how bad they are'

Pretty much this. I mean they're saying that they do proprietary drives because they have a higher reliability standard than standard drives. How nice of you Microsoft, I'm wondering where this attitude was when they decided to rush into this generation by cutting corners in the 360's design, resulting in unreliable hardware.

but that is the thing it's not a Proprietary Hard drive, Microsoft does not make the Hard drive, and the big thing is

it is a standard 2.5" laptop harddrive in that can. the Can now that is what make's it Proprietary, not the Hard drive.

What the hell was that horseshit? that wasn't a confirm nor a denial... somethings iffy...

i don't see the PR guy being able to talk about price of live being increased because he may not know. and I also think it's an overreaction to dwell on that because one thing for sure Microsoft has shown they are more than willing to eat the cost on thing's this generation. look at the over 1.8 billion they ate so they could extend the xbox360 warrenty. which was a good move but cost the company quite a bit so maybe they are looking to recover some of that money by adding function's to live but they want more money for live.

nothing wrong with that but it would be your choice if the extra cost is worth it, besides they do still have silver, gold level's of xbox live they may add more level's in the future.

that's the thing we won't know until it get's here.

"If you look at the full ecosystem, we have $404 million consumer dollars spent. That's over $100 million more than Sony and roughly $120 million more than Nintendo"

What do he means but "full ecosystem?"

They are not making more money than Nintendo in the gaming business that's for shure...

He's talking revenue and he's also including all third party software and accessories.  In that case he may be correct.  However it's hardly relevant when the only thing that really matters is profit.

Microsoft : we generate more $ per customers because we charge for Internet connection while our competitors give it for free and we sell proprietary accessories that cost an arm and a leg...( 100$ wifi anyone ?)

Hurrah !

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

@joeorc's "Microsoft has shown they are more than willing to eat the cost on thing's this generation. look at the over 1.8 billion they ate so they could extend the xbox360 warrenty. which was a good move but cost the company quite a bit "

Just wanted to point out Mircosoft did this to save their own ass, and not out of loyalty/charity to the customer! Otherwise they could have been looking at a full recall of the product!

Seriously, what are you all complaining about? It's only an extra $4 a month!!!

In the UK, it would be something like £80-100 which is comparable to 140-180 dollars. Is that really worth it?

I'm being sarcastic. I actually believe that it's a rip off to even pay anything XBLG when there's better and free services like Steam.

Steam is overrated. It's buggy, patches suck and are a pain in the butt downloads are slow. No, Steam is not better than XBL. However, XBL price goes up, they may lose another customer. I have a feeling I will be back on XBC again.

well the thing is I think Microsoft's whole point is you can upgrade over time, some advantages to doing it that way.

for example the same example you gave:

the new wifi expansion will include "n" which is a further range Wifi

and with the PS3 you would also have to buy a USB Wifi device with "N" capability if you wanted that function

of greater Wifi range also

but unlike the xbox360 you cannot remove the built in wifi in the PS3

it's kind of a waste for the PS3 to get an extra USB Wifi adapter just for "N"

but for the xbox360 it's a good upgrade but that depend's on if you think the price is ok for the upgrade

and that's what Microsoft gave the consumer.

not to say For me It's not that big of a deal because i use cat 5 anyway. but for some its a nice way to get into the game system and upgrade the system over time. pretty much like  HOW you upgrade the PC.

Hell no, Steam is almost problem-free. Valve just kept fixing and fixing Steam so many times that it has become the great service it is now.
