Forums - Sony - Gran Turismo 5 Packaging Reveals Three Discs

Sometimes, you’ll come across the most pleasant surprises when you least expect them, and this situation is no exception. Today, we get our first look at the Gran Turismo 5 box art and packaging, in the hands of Kazunori Yamauchi himself. Our own sharp-eyed reader, GON, was first to notice the revelation in this new video from Mercedez-Benz and immediately sent it my way. Sure enough, at 0:42, we get to spy on a Polyphony Digital meeting as Yamauchi inspects a thick Blu-Ray box, complete with the obligatory small text, Sony Computer Entertainment stamp, and the new PS3 logo. Although it may not be the ultimate final product, it’s very likely this is exactly what you’ll find on store shelves next year.

The most curious thing, of course, is the fact that the packaging clearly contains three separate Blu-Ray cases -- one black, one red, and one blue. What could they be? While the conspiracy theorists get to work, here’s a list of other interesting tidbits from the clip:

  • Gran Turismo uses one single physics calculation model, so they simply enter the parameters for each car, and the handling characteristics play themselves out within the game. As Yamauchi says, “If the original car is made well, it’ll drive well.”
  • We get a closer look at the 3D model of the SLS AMG in Gran Turismo 5, along with a corner from the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
  • Mercedes’ narrarator suggests that Yamauchi is “considering” putting the new SLS AMG on the cover, but Yamauchi’s following comments (along with the box art seen earlier) all but confirm it will be the star of the show. As he explains, it “will probably be the most exciting car in the world when GT5 is released”. He also was sure to mention: “Fans of Gran Turismo 5 really have something to be excited about”.

As always, if anyone is able to track down a higher-quality version of the source clip, please let me know.

I wonder what is on those 3 discs.. Im thinking maybe 1 disc (blue) is a blu-ray GT5 in the making video, disc 2 (black) GT5 itself and finally the disc 3 (red) being GT TV content.

What do you all think??

What ever it is.. its going to be a BLAST!!.. Cant wait for March 2010.

could it be a sepcial edition???

Considering Prologue was a 1.7Gb download the amount of content (being game or other bonus) on 3 BD's would be really amazing. I'm excited :)

XD @ all you people complaining about having 2 discs in Forza 3...aint Carma a bitch????
On the flip side, for those who really don't care about having multiple discs (the non fanboys) , this means GT5 must have a lot of content...awesome!

Past Avatar picture!!!

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

3 x 50GB of pure GT = best game ever!

Predictions

GT5 will sell 3.2million + first week on ps3 (made 06 March 2010)

FFXIII Versus will have higher Metacritic scores than FFXIII after the first month.... Bet going on with perpride - loser changes sig for a month

KH3 will be PS3 EXCLUSIVE - willing to bet removal from vgchartz for a month

Bullshit, this has to be a special edition version, or one of them is some BlueRay Top Gear show or SOMETHING. There is no way they can fill 3 Blue ray full of content on the game alone unless it has 8 hours of car porn in it.

This is going to be one complete game. It's gonna be the ultimate showcase for the PS3 create so immense hype for the PS3. This game is going to be talked about for a long time after it's release. Let's hope it gets as good reviews as Forza is getting because the creators of this awesome franchise deserve it. To think that Yamauchi actually test drives the cars to get the proper feeling of the cars is just incredible.

No way every game will be sold in a case like that. It has to be a special edition.

whaaaaaaaa??? I for one do not believe all 3 discs are full of games data, a blue ray disc now can be as big as 100G, if they need 3 discs for the game itself doesn't that mean the game has more than 200G of data?????? I know GT5 is a huge game and all that but com'on, 200G+??

We really should find out what is on those discs before comments like these are issued. For all we know, it could be bonus content that has no effect on the game itself, like "Making of" videos etc.
