The 'u' and the 're' instead of 'er' (theatre/theater) are French leftovers. I'm English and happy to be rid of them. It's not like we haven't changed our own language over the years or dost thou thinketh differently?

Maybe they changed it so they didn't have to pay royalties or 'republicties' as they're called in America.

I have never seen that word in my life.   Its royalities here

Check again.

Checking............   Yep still royalties

My mistake. I heard once that America changed royalty for something else instead.

Come on now, most of it has just been light hearted joking. You make fun of us for having a "U" randomly in our words, and we make fun of the American spelling of aluminum.

I admit the lazy part was bad and uncalled for, but it's mostly been banter so far.

Sorry if I have caused you offence, I and a few others may have misread the tone of the thread.

With all the different spellings it's hard not to.

Ho ho, I saw what you did there, you are a man of quick and clever wit Lord Flashheart. This is very clear as you have a sig, an avatar and a username all in reference to Blackadder, one of the greatest British comedies of all time.

Apart from about the metric system.

The company I work for uses the Metric system.   But its not like it matters,  one isnt superior to the other, its just what each country was brought up on.

Ever wonder why the entire world apart from you went through the trouble of changing from imperial to metric?

It's because in practical terms - especially for engineering - the metric system is many many times better.

Well from what is sounds like according to a couple of posters on here,  even the UK hasnt gone completely metric themselves having some road signs still in MPH and such.

And you are wrong about the engineering part.   The metric system is not superior to the imperical system.

Why thank you. Usually I'm called something that sounds similar but has a completely different meaning.

Doesn't mean they're wrong.

We're, well I was and I usually assume that means everyone else as well and is still happening, taught both in school but that could've changed now.

This is going to turn into a whole new "Soccer Vs Football" debate again...

Well only because you brought it up

I don't mean to bring it up as a debate topic. It's like the thread we had a few months back about what to call it.

Ah,  well I wont share my thoughts on it.   Americans have gotten enough hate in this thread to begin with

Well it wouldnt have been so bad if it was just a few posts.  And maybe I am overreacting, but it seemed like every other post was doing it
