Forums - Nintendo - Is this the most important Wii game?

Indeed. Who can forget Monkey Island...

Around the Network

I think Zack and Wiki will be a really important game but not to show that quality 3rd party games can do well, but to help revive point and click adventures.

These were some of the most fun games of the 90's and sadly they died out when everything started moving to true 3D. I know King's Quest tried to do a 3rd person adventure that failed miserably and that's really the last I remember of point and click adventures. I've said this 100 times already, but the Wii could fail so bad that it could make a cancer patient cry I would still be absolutely ecstatic if it only managed to revive the point and click adventure genre.

@ Twestern: Aren't the sam and max games point and click adventures? They seem to be doing fairly well, with rumours running rampant that they're heading Wii's way.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

You want to define "important"?

WiiFit is in many ways, the most important Wii title. At least to Nintendo.

In terms of a title selling well - and changing opinions on the Wii - it might be something as simple as Soul Calibre:Legends. Something that people don't expect to do particularly well - but blows socks off, in terms of sales.

Zak & Wiki will do well - as it is expected. I can't see how it qualifies as "most important" in any definition.

To me, Zack & Wiki is important for three things.

  1. Future point and click adventure games down the road for the Wii.
  2. Selling well of an original and exclusive 3rd party game.
  3. And it's AWESOME!!!

It's not the most important game for the Wii like "to boost sales". That would be Super Mario Galaxy doing this holiday season.

I hope that DS' touch pen and Wii' wiimote can save the adventure game genre.

i remember the good old days of PC adventure games, Space Quest, Larry Suite, Manic Mansion, Sam & Max Hits the Road, Monkey Island.........

Capcom is already sold on the Wii's potential and all Zack and Wiki's fall (if it does) would tell them is that they need to stick with the more mature titled games that are earning them gold on the Wii.

It's hard to measure how other third parties will respond to the game's sales but since many are still holding back out of fear of the Wii bubble bursting and others are trying to get by on half-hearted mediocre investments in the Wii, I think its fair to say this game won't make or break anything.

The most important Capcom game for Wii is probably Monster Hunter 3. They probably expect it to sale around a million copies. But Zack and Wiki is a new IP with new gameplays so I think if they manage around 500k they'd be happy. My guess is that they'll do better then that.

Not the most important no, but if it sells well it'll do away with that third party games can't sell on the Wii myth
