I'm more of a username person. I tend to look at the username first. But a person with a lasting avatar is obviously more identifiable than others with the exception of megaman2.

Since I'm reading the post, the avatar tends to catch my eye first.
I have a feeling people tend to notice my avatar first too. Only because it's red and shiny.
