I don't recall UT2004 having P2P matchmaking.

Oh no it wasn't P2P, it just put you in the game with smililarly skilled peeps.

It has been a while since I have played UT2004, but I do not recall them placing you on a server with similarly skilled players.  I do recall them dropping you in a server that had the game settings you wanted with the best available ping.  Perhaps I am forgetting though, but I don't even recall them keeping tabs on any skill indication either.

You do have to tag the option of track stats though and that's all that shows up. I also think it resets on certaiintervals, but I'm not as sure on that.

Ah, I see.  I do remember stat tracking, but I did not remember the rank stuff.  So do you know how their matching stuff worked?  Did it just look at all the registered servers and plopped you in a game with more people of a similar level?

It has been many years since I did matchmaking in that game but I remember being pretty evenly matched when i did in random servers.

Kotaku did a radio session and spent a lot of time talking about it. There are some good opinions from them and from some of the callers as well.

I don't recall for how long, but they spend the first chunk of the show talking about video game guide writing and such before they get into Modern Warfare 2.

Leaving this here.

Yes, the Aku face is a great one to make right about now.

In answer to Infinity Ward or the reaction from fans?

I spend more time playing games on my PC than I do on consoles so an answer to Infinity Ward. I know that PC gaming isn't as popular as it once was, but this is a bummer especially if it takes hold in more PC games.

But who cares, it's friggen Aku! :P
