Depending on supply Nintendo could take a big chunk out of that goal in November and December being that they are (practically) ensured of outselling the XBox 360 and PS3 combined on a worldwide basis over the Christmas period.

I'm (personally) anticipating that the holidays (Thanksgiving [US] and Christmas/Hanukkah [wordwide]) will cause a spike of interest in the Wii because a lot of people who have never been exposed to it will go to their friends/families houses and end up playing some Wii Sports. I can imagine that the Wii could see 'Christmas Level' sales in January (and possibly February) even without any major game releases.

If Wii Fit takes off in Japan it will get the greatest 'Free' marketing campaign when it is released in North America because it will be covered on every major network on the news and in shows like Dateline and 20/20; it works as a general interest story and can tie-in well with new-years weight loss programs and child obesity news stories.

If everything goes well for Nintendo I would say they will pass the 360 and PS3 combined by March 31st 2008 but I personally wouldn't expect it until September 31 2008.

Sometimes I wonder if people do any sanity-check calculations before putting down a prediction. It's a gap of 4.5 million now, and 360 is selling very well at least in USA, which is getting them near each other in weekly sales.

So even with increased Wii supply I can't see the gap between Wii and 360+PS3 getting any smaller until the end of the year. If you agree with that, overcoming a gap of 4.5 million is no joke, for example if you're saying "March 2008", you're saying that Wii will outsell 360+PS3 by more than 1 million consoles per month...

I believe the Wii outselling the other two consoles combined is inevitable. If the Wii's holiday season is superb and the others do really badly it could happen this year, but that's pretty unlikely. Can't imagine it happening later than half-way through next year though.

Leo-j, you should realise that the PS3 catching up to even the 360 during 08 would require the big black box outselling the big white box by at least 500k per month, and it currently isn't even selling 500k by itself. PS3 sales will probaby be better next year and this year, but it's not catching up to anything before 09. I'm not touching what will happen that year, because we honestly can't know yet.

The Wii will sell more than the PS3 and 360 combined for sure. Look at last gen, PS2 sold much more than the Cube and X Box combined, which ever console 3rd parties go to sells and to me that looks like it is going to be the Wii. So Wii will sell way better than both of them combined.

This question is too hard to answer. Heres why......this gen is yet to be decided.

Wii-Supply constraints+poor 3rd party game sales can lead to disaster. On the other hand Wii reminds me of a young DS, small game selection, eh sales of games so this system has the potential to explode to DS like popularity. Dev costs being a fraction of what it is for other systems, is appealing to devs. If it finds DS's success it will eventually pass 360+PS3. People into fancy graphics will pass on this.

360-Has the graphics to appease to the graphics>gameplay crowd, more likely to have the has the "all my friends have it" factor, larger catalog of games than its competitors, cheaper than its HD counterpart. Has some old and more importantly new IP's with a lot of Buzz around them.

PS3-Unstable future but has some BIG guns which depending on what people are willing to spend can mean good things for the PS brand. FF/MGS/R&C/GT/Tekken(I think thats still exclusive) and Im sure some more can mean big things. I dont believe Leo j's prediction is going to happen, but I think it is more likely to happen than most people think.

There are still a lot of people that think paying $300 for a system is wayyy too much. That is what keeps nearly all my friends from buying a next gen system, with exception of a Wii which they just cant find.

If the current sales level continue late spring, early summer 2008. But it all depends on the holidays. Christmas and New Year PS3 and Xbox360 will move a lot more hardware than the rest of the year and I fear the Wii can't keep up with them during the holidays due to the supply constraint. If Nintendo doesn't have enough supply this coming holiday it will be Christmas 2008. I said this before but now would be a good time to start shipping those supposedly stockpiled holiday Wii stock.

lol, Leo-J's always good for a laugh.  I really want to know what Sony's paying him, and if theres any way I could get in on that action.

The only thing that limits the amount of Wiis sold seems to be the amount of Wiis made. If Nintendo can pick it up, I see no reason why it can't happen by mid-2008. It would be sooner, but I just don't think Nintendo is going to meet demand during Christmas, as stupid of a move as that is.

certainly won't happen in 2008 - mainly because of GTA 4 - maybe in 2009 ,if the Wii really manages to keep it's momentum and sell to many formally non-gamers due to it's casual appeal
