Forums - Sales - If there is a $149 360 ARCADE this year, WHAT would happen?

People could start to think that xbox360 is at the end of his cycle, and this could mean loss of value to the Xbox brand. How many people bought a $99 Gamecube? Price is not everything, it does not always guarantee sustained increase on system selling.

Bad comparison. The 360 is in much bigger demand than Gamecube ever was. The proof would be its not $99 and has sold far more.

Edit: Also the Gamecube didn't get great 3rd party support. As it primarily moved 1st party games.

Nothing cause hopefully they aren't thinking the $150 route for another 1 1/2 + years.

Why?

Arcade doesn't have a hard drive in it. They could easily add a hard drive to help boost sales.

Natal. Natal is going to be $50-$100? Throwing in that makes it more appealing towards the Wii audience/casuals.

MS doesn't need to drop the price till the 720 is out in a few years.

Then again need and want are different things. I could see MS dropping the price just to lowball Sony. Imagine a $150 arcade with Natal? Yikes.

It's just that simple.

The Arcade in the UK did go up in price. There are a few factors though, weak pound vs dollar and euro + Arcades over here are available in bundles with Batman Lego + andother game and exctra controller + 1 new release (Halo ODST, Fifa 10 etc) for £159 ($238 ish)

Obviously there is value added in there especially when the Wii with a couple of games retails @ £179

PS3 slim prcing is very competetive over here now though - £249 with 2 new releases (Uncharted, Fifa 10 etc....) Elite is £200 with 2 new releases and in some cases extra controller.

There is not enough of a differential over ps3 pricing in the UK at the moment really the Arcade needs to go £99 bare bones if they want to seriously move sales I doubt it will happen in the UK with inport and sales tax at 25% currently with 5% dealer margint he would have to land them for £70 (around 99%) cost. Not going to happen but the drop might be relaistic in the states and europe.

Nothing would happen. Maybe if it was £99 but that aint happening soon

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

I still believe that the cheapest price is going to gain the most attention this holiday season. When push comes to shove, it's going to be hard for Sony to convince the casual audience that its system is worth the 100 dollar difference between it and the 360. If the price was 159.99, then it would be near impossible.

Here's hoping for a Halo:Reach beta to celebrate the holiday season.

than it would be so cheap that people think its garbage and will pick up a PS3!!!

$149 Arcade XBox 360 would not change anything. I believe the PS3 would still outsell it in worldwide weekly console sales
