Forums - Gaming - Analysts: September PS3 sales 'dismal'

To be fair the "Halo" effect was anticipated for months and the reaction from Sony was not the best.  Late price cuts, abysmal PR. At the same time that “Halo” effect is only temporary and Sony did offer some price cut.  Sony needs some non market strategy very badly. We’ll see.

Source?  Link?  Proof?

Are you the analysts, josenieves1?

Edit: Ah, the link is posted.

Interesting. From the article: "Jesse Divnich, analyst for the gaming-prediction market simExchange, accused Halo 3's blockbuster sales of cannibalizing the market."

That's the same damn excuse they used to describe the dismal box office performance of movies.

Funny that the Wii didn't seem to suffer in September. *shrugs*

Sorry, forgot to paste the link...

How about this one?

N'Gai Croal:

From Washington, D.C. to Foster City, California, the word of the day is, apparently, "relevant." An embattled President Bush used the R-word yesterday morning during a press conference to explain why he decided to veto a children's health insurance bill supported by both Republicans and Democrats. That's why it echoed in our minds during a conversation yesterday afternoon with Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton, wherein he used the word "relevant" ten times in just 12 minutes while referring to the similarly besieged Playstation 3 and its predecessor. Was this a confident recitation of the facts or merely a wishful talking point? We'll let you be the judge. But based on what our sources are telling us, if the PS3 had a power animal, the September sales gap between the Sony's flagship console and those of its two competitors would see the PS3 represented by a duck—one as lame as the current occupant of the Oval Office.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

This quote bothers me...

"While the success of the Wii has been great for the industry, ultimately Nintendo, and not publishers, is the prime beneficiary," Greenwald said. "It is more advantageous for third-party publishers that the Xbox 360 and PS3 grow their installed bases."

Wait wait, so the Wii is good for the industry as you say....but since Nintendo is the prime beneficiary its better if the 360 and the PS3 grow their install bases??? What??

Either the Wii is good for the industry or its not.  This nonsensical double talk pisses me off from these analysts and when it boils down to it this is there way of saying "Well my prediction that the 360 and PS3 would be doing well right now was wrong, but things would be so much better if I had been right!".

To Each Man, Responsibility

HS sales were very disappointing.

It'll be interesting to see how the so called heavy hitters fair in the comming months, namely R&C since its an established name. It should also be interesting to see how the orange box fares on the PS3 compared to the 360.

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

To Sqrl. Same concern here. The analysts need to decide what is what...

Yes very true. Ultimately if games like that of which you listed sell alot worse on PS3, then 3rd party developers will continue to shun an eye to PS3.
