Forums - Sony - Naughty Dog: We did not expect the critical reception we're getting .

If Sony would market the SHIT out of this game, this could be the next Halo,honestly.

Anyone agree?

No. Even at the height of its populairty (and I mean it was all over the news) The highest any Tomb Raider game got was just below 5 million.

That's about the level this game can sell.

@Seece

Tomb Raider never had mass marketing and MP,nor was did it have alot of shooting,Uncharted could do great things, if it was marketed properly.

"Tomb Raider never had mass marketing"

really didn't need it, a lot of people new about it, even out of gaming circles.

@Seece

Yea but its not mass marketing, you think Halo 3 did 10 million by word of mouth? or the mass marketing and mountain dew bottles.

Mass Marketing shows that your serious about your game,MS would put any ol game on Mountain Dew bottles.

Naughty Dog: We did not expect the critical reception we're getting

There's a saying that deems humble people as the most successful. They don't brag about what they've accomplished, they don't go around badmouthing the competition, and they certainly don't imitate. The Naughty Dogs have demonstrated their humbleness, even as they bask in the praise of rave reviews for the critically acclaimed Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
You'd think after creating such a genre defining experience that they'd have anticipated this was coming. Well according to Naughty Dog's Travis McIntosh, this sentiment could not be further from the truth. Speaking today in a live chat with the Official Playstation Blog, he said:
"We knew we had something special while working on the game, but did we expect the critical recognition we've been getting? No, when you're as close to a game as we are it's far easier to see the flaws than the full picture. It wasn't until near the end when the story and the cut scenes finally came together that we realized that the game was as good as it was?"
On an entirely different note, Neil Druckmann later added "We love that so many girls enjoy Uncharted..... it's part of our motivation in creating such strong, well-rounded female characters."
You can indulge here, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is now available. Can't make your mind up yet? Read our full review, no bias, but you'll be convinced.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Uncharted, I'm digging Uncharted 2, and they totally deserve all the praise they're getting, but come on, anyone who says that everything from the Uncharted series isn't a blatant rip-off of another game or movie is fooling themselves.

Again, nothing wrong with that since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, just wanted to point that out.

I don't post much but this comment really annoyed me.

I mean does that really need to be said?

Calling it a blatant rip-off is ridiculous to begin with, but  I can't think of anything that this game straight up imitates.  I love both uncharted games and I hated tomb raider.  (I'm assuming that's what you're saying uncharted ripped off.)  Yes it does borrow inspiration from other games and movies (Tomb raider, Indiana Jones etc.); but can you name a single game that is completely original?

Since you decided to overdo it and talk in absolutes, why don't you tell me where they ripped off their snow effects, Twesterm?

...

What's awesome about ND is how they're fans first, they wanna make games THEY would play, and I love how they reach out to the fans whether it be with the fortune hunter edition, constant chats, playing MP on the beta, etc. They're the best developers out there right now.

So it's not just a tomb raider rip off anymore. It will only sell what tomb raider sells now too.... So many things wrong with that statement that I don't even know where to begin so I wont.

Is that a man or a woman in that picture?
