Forums - Nintendo - RUMOR: nVidia wins Next Gen DS chip deal

Mr Khan...if you notice, the GBA was more or less a portable SNES, power wise...the DS is more like a portable N64 (though most of the games are 2D), as shown by Mario 64 DS...with the next system, do you see them approaching GameCube like graphic power?

The PSP is roughly the same graphical abilities as the PS2/GameCube.  There's no reason the next-gen DS shouldn't be more powerful than that.

All this crazy news coming out at once. It's interesting if the new ds will push graphics further or tackle new control styles.

Speculation ensue.

It can always do both...

The DSi has had some hardware improvements over the original DS, already.

PS2 yes, but gamecube no. The Gamecube and Xbox were more in competition, while the Dreamcast and PS2 on the other spectrum if you argue graphical capabilities. Even then, there are very few PSP games that best what the PS2 offers.

That sounds way too early for Nintendo's next hand held. Can't wait though.

Nintendo still doomed?

This news tidbit might actually cause them to lose the deal as Nintendo doesn't like leaks.

TGS2010 might be really interesting.

I can see nintendo releasing a new handheld late 2010 but I don't expect them to stop selling the ds/dsi anytime soon and wouldn't be surprised by a new edition of the ol DS was released about the same time ala the GBA micro.

this is it's 5th year on the market and the DS came out just 4 years after the GBA (mainly because of the PSP)

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

I'd expect it to go on sale maybe late 2011 or 2012. DS is selling too strong to just cut support in a years time

This may also go hand-in-hand with GameFreak searching for a new worker who has expertise in 3D graphics, seeing that the 4th Generation of Pokemon is over and the dawn of the 5th Generation is coming forth. Each new Generation is released on the next handheld, so this may very well be true for the Pokemon franchise (with GameFreak wanting a new worker with 3D skills).
