But to a true right winger, I would be considered left wing. Most people remember the things they disagree about, and not what they agree on. For example, I am called a right winger in a thread where I support changing laws to give homosexuals equal rights.

Funny how we gloss over what we agree on.

conservatives are against gay people having equal rights?

Most people when they talk about "right wing", they mean the extreme right. The extreme right is usually religiously motivated in most of there social views.

So yes, the religious right is against equal rights for gay people. This is not all conservatives however.

I wouldn't say religiously motivated so much as "religiously justified".

It's like back when Kings would be deposed because a bunch of his enemys just so happened to believe a different Claiment was the rightful King.

People don't want gay people to get married so they take a few quotes out of context.

Finally, something Kasz and I don't agree on :)

I think it's the other way around. The bible makes religious people not want gays to marry, and I don't think it's taking a few quotes out of context.

I am pretty sure the bible means to say living a gay lifestyle will send you to hell. So, if you care about all people, and don't want them to go to hell, you try and "help" them.

I would be the same way. If I though eating a tomato was going to cause you explode and you didn't, I would do everything in my power to keep you from eating it, for your own good.

That's what sucks about it. It's hard to get mad at a delusional group of people who really just want to save you from a horrific future.

By the way, that line works for Democrats too :p

It's why I don't ever get upset with Democrats. They just want to help, they are just delusional if they think there brand of economics is really going to "help" anyone.

I'd argue that the Bible doesn't say you'll go to some horrible nega-afterlife if you're gay (since I don't believe in Hell and find these interpretations specious at best), but the Bible does make it pretty clear that dudes having sex with other dudes really pisses off God.

The only unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the holy spirit if I'm not mistaken...
Gays are safe from hell.

Also, why did God create abominations in the first place if he didn't like them?
Must be for the lulz.

Gay marriage will actually help economically as well. Divorce = Money to the government.

I'm warning you, only read if you really want my opinion:

Another solution to the gay marriage issue is to stop being gay. Find a woman already just like 90% of people already do. I don't see the draws to being gay, I find it hard to believe you'd rather get it on with another dude then a hot chick.

Being gay is not a choice. Neither is "going straight" to paraphrase your statement.

So does wearing cotton poleyster blends .

"Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee."

Yeah, that's right too...if you have a garden where you have more then one plant in.  According to Leviticus your going to hell.

Also if you've ever shaved your beard.

Nobody is really argueing any of this stuff.

Haha, I'll never get tired of your writing style.

@Kasz: I'm pretty sure that in the Old Testament the problem wasn't that you would go to Hell, it's that God would come down and kill you and your whole family and burn your house down and pee on the ashes. Kind of like what he did to Job, only this time he means it.

And people don't argue about that stuff, yes, because.... I don't know why? But they do argue about the gay stuff and a lot of objections to man-love have roots in Biblical sources. I mean, it's right there! It might be hard to say which causes the other but most people who are brought up to believe that gayness is bad are brought up to believe gayness is bad exactly because it pisses off God.

@c0rd: That's the best compliment I've gotten on these boards, thank you.
