Look at it this way: The holiday quarter = the other 3 months combined nearly the other 3 quarters combined (it was 20M vs 24M last year).
NSMB will sell 10 million in 2 months of the holiday quarter, + 1 other quarter. That's essentially 3.5 quarters, if we claim that a year actually has 6 quarters.
In other words, year 2 will have 70% more sellingtime. So if NSMB Wii averages 40% less in its second year, it will sell 10 million more. And is it really "continuing to sell after even a year" if you drop by more than half your sales?
I'm reading this as him saying he believes it can hit 20 million by the end of the next FY. To my knowledge, that is the quickest any game has ever reached 20 million. Although Wii Fit/MKWii would have made it if they launched in the holiday period.
Yes, he's setting the expectations very low.

You should read again. Miyamoto never said NSMB Wii would sell 10 million copies in its first fiscal year. It was Iwata. You should direct your anger to someone else.
Also, if Mario Kart Wii is not an "evergreen" title, can you give me another example other than Wii Fit?

What Iwata expects and what Miyamoto expects is sort of the same thing. I doubt Miyamoto tells people his own personal expectations, without at all consulting with other people in Nintendo. I can't think of a single time Nintendo have publically claimed something for a game, and fell far below it. There really is little difference between what Miyamoto and Iwata says.
And you're trying to prove me wrong on something I already admitted was incorrect 10 minutes before you posted. Why?

So let me summarize what you are saying here.
Iwata says he expectes NSMB Wii to sell 10 millions which is the same thing as Miyamoto says it. And that makes Miyamoto a cocky bastard.

If you don't think claiming NSMB Wii will sell 10 million copies this fiscal year is modest, it's perfectly fine. However, what does that have to do with Miyamoto if he never said such thing?

There really is little difference between what Miyamoto and Iwata says." does not mean you can put what Iwata said as what Miyamoto said. In such case, I can apply the same logic and say "What Jack Tretton expects and Kaz Hirai expects are sort of the same thing... There really is little difference between what Tretton and Kaz says." So when Jack says something stupid, I could just call Kaz an idiot. That's basically what you did.

I haven't been criticising Miyamoto - heck, I agree with the man. I was saying that theprof was wrong, not Miyamoto. Reading what I said, I find that pretty much completely obvious.
