If you ever try to question my literary aptitudes then I'll make sure that I embarass you till hell comes knocking at your door.
I've read everything from John Milton's Paradise Lost, to Dostoyesky Crime and Punishement, Kafka's Amerika, Jose Saramago Blindness and The Stone Raft, Eça de Queiroz The Maias, Sartre Le Age d'raison...do you want me to continue or shall we take this a step further?

Any time you even wish to insult someone, at least have to decency to ask the person if what they said is based on their personal experience.

I like Eça de Queiroz, but I've never read The Maias. I've read Cousin Basilio though. It was really good.

And I've yet to read any of Anne Rice's novels, but I've seen the movie. Is it as good?

The books are even far better than the movie (i'm going to neglet the Queen of the Damned movie because it was against the vision of Anne Rice and that really showed in the film, it was very bad done).

In the movie they went for a less dark gothic feeling and humanized the characters of Louis, Claudia and Armand so that the public would be less shocked.
Louis isn't the defeated, death-waiting man as he is in the movie, he's fuelled by a great desire to die yes, but he doesn't wait for it, he seeks it, he even goes as far to challenge Lestat himself to a fight to the death at first. Claudia shows more child like characteristics in the book, which we're coupled with a semi-sexual love for Lestat and Louis, thus her desire to grow and her will to murder young women was driven to a higher level in the book.
Armand is the true definition of the ambiguous sexuality of vampires, and his craving for Lous really showed in the book, which was seriously toned down in the film.

Plus there are other minute things that changed the whole flow of the history, but i'm glad that the character of Lestat didn't suffer from this, due in large to Anne Rice's demands for the film.

Don't forget Midnight's Children...may not be classic literature but It sure is a fantastic book I just finished reading

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

@ShadowSoldier

I know, sorry if i forgot to add any more great literature books, i wanted to keep it short and those we're the ones on the top of my mind ;)

Midnight Children is a great book, and a true depiction of the post-imperialism transition from the british commonwealth to independence that India went through. The name of the author is Salman Rushdi am I correct?

lol close but Saleem Sinai, would be correct. Still amazing book and the undertones and themes in that book were incredible. And who says Gamers don't read :P

Garcian Smith, apparently.

I don't want to contradict you, but wasn't Saleem Sinai the name of the main character of the book?

I actually read more than I play games, mostly scientific stuff due to my line of studies, but I always have a new book to read at my side late at night ;).

Edit

@Johann

And you know what's sad? It's that he hasn't responded yet. He just threw that as being all high and mighty about literature, yet when he was proven to be wrong, he just left the thread. Personally I want him to respond, not because of his derogatory comments, but as a literature buff, I want to see what his knowledge of classical literature encompasses.

Guys please forgive me if my post offends you or comes off as trolling, But why do people actually choose to play JRPGs of their own free will?

I mean I just don't understand how games like final fantasy 7 and kingdom hearts are even role playing. What are you pretending to be? A group of characters that the developer already decided who they are and what their morality is?

On the other hand games like oblivion and neverwinter nights just offer so much more customization as well as shit to do.

I can vaguely remember playing FF3 on the ds a couple years ago and if my memory serves me right I was driven purely by the desire to beat the game.

Grinding+storyline+cut scenes.

Grinding = addictive small level goal-setting with discovering new stuff, and random intervals surpise goodies.

Storyline = seeing how events will turn out.

Cut scenes = feeling like you are part of a movie.

I agree with this thread. I just dont understand how people can like this genre.

My understanding of JRPGs is that they are:

- linear

- have arena fights

- have Manga people and children, which I find no attraction in

- their settings, worlds and chracters feel very artificial and cheezy

- their stories are childish and overly melodramatic

JRPGs have you beaten this generation or any generation?

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

@Slimebeast

Wait, weren't those the exact same things you said in the other JRPG thread? I thought you clarified that the only JRPG games you've played we're only from this generation, and we gave you suggestions of far better JRPG games that didn't had any of those cons that you pointed out.
What you're doing is just repetitive bashing for no reason whatsoever.
