Forums - Gaming - What is the appeal behind JRPGs

Story...I play JRPGs because I'm looking for good stories. And so far, some of the best I've found them in JPRGs (like Persona 3 and 4, to give some examples). Then add some bonuses like that I like that they feature engaging bosses and they usually have great art direction and very good music

definitely YES at the ART and Music...a big reason why i really dont like western developers is the boring by the book art..its likes theres no style

I like them because they are fun and they also treat you (usually) with an excellent story giving a great reason to play.

If we start getting into a WRPG story vs. JRPG story argument, I'm going to be bitterly disappointed in all of you.

Fun fact:  This post is the first post in the thread to mention WRPG.

Does JRPG stand for japanese rpg?

OT: I think most people's answer will be story, along with that I remember playing adventureqeust when I was younger and what drove me too that was the content and the ability to just relax, there's no rush for me to press a button unlike int FF13 where they have the new pre-set features.

So I just like jrpg thats much less now.

Honestly, do JRPG makers even realize how hard it is to save the world? That shit is impossible!

Interesting point of fact, though it is only the first to name the genre, not refer to it.

Well, it's not like the thread doesn't motivate it. The OP specifically mentions Oblivion and NN...we could draw comparisons

Awesome Story, Intense Battle Systems, Characters Music. So many reasons. Also its classified as an RPG due to how the battle system is set up.

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

This last part is silly. That's the strategy game roots of the genre, not the role-playing roots.

besides customization, they are better than WRPG.
in story, character design, music and gameplay.
since the stories are not so split up much they are better crafted.

mass effect and fall out 3 in my opinion are too much american TV like to me, space marines, aliens, apocalypse, and gameplay too much similar to shooters.
