Forums - Sales Discussion - Which console's big holiday titles will sell the most?

Here are the totals for this week's update.

Console Total software during holidays Percent of top 5 of total sales
Wii 32,256,303 23.36
PS3 25,347,921 41.83
Xbox 360 30,059,155 39.21

So on total software sales the Wii (not counting Wii Sports) has retaken the lead over the 360, based largely on the strength of older titles, which is why the top 5 holiday titles make up a much smaller percent of total software sales than the HD consoles.

Keep up the good work starheel That pie chart is hilarious

I agree with the comments about the missed opportunity for third parties on the Wii this Holiday. There was definitely room for at least a couple of highly promoted titles to really breakout this year, but it seems that instead there are only going to be a number of moderately performing titles that may be able to reach 500k-750k during this period.

I don't know, this is unstable

Tomorrow we should get last weeks numbers. Seeing the Japanese first week sales of New Super Mario Bros it is already certain Wii will be the best selling platform for the week. Will be interesting to see how much the gap will be closed.

Tight race ahead.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Personally, the game for me this holidays is NSMB Wii. Havent gamed on the Wii in ages, but this title is gonna change all of that.

There is no Knowledge that is not Power

That was a big week for Wii and it actually did manage to bring the gap down to less than 3 million with Xbox 360. With 4 more weeks to go Wii might actually pull it off. Even without NSMB numbers in Japan it would still have been almost 500k higher than Xbox 360 this week. If it can continue this performance outside of Japan for the remaining weeks that could close the gap to around 1 million, then it is up to NSMB in Japan to make up that last million.

All in all I now feel they'll end up with less than 500k between them. PS3 will be about 2 to 3 million behind, which is a very respectable result given the difference in user base. In the end it loses this battle with Xbox 360 purely because of Modern Warfare 2, it might actually outsell it when only looking at the number 2 to 5 games on the list.

Updated the original post with this weeks numbers. Wii had a very impressive week, thanks mainly to the launch of NSMBWii in Japan. After this week's numbers do you think that the Wii can eventually move up to first? Currently it seems inevitable that the PS3 will end up in (a close) third in this contest, as Wii is increasing so much on a weekly basis.

Wii: Wii Fit Plus: 7 million / NSMB Wii 3-5 million / Mario & Sonic at the Olympics 2,5 million / 2 unknown titles 2 million

Xbox 360: Modern Warfare 5,5 million / Assassins Creed 2 2,5 million / Left 4 Dead 2 2 million / Forza 3 2 million / FIFA 10 1,5 million

PS3: Modern Warfare 3 million / Assassins Creed 2 2,5 million / Uncharted 2 2 Million / FIFA 10 2 million / Final Fantasy XIII 1,5 million

With these numbers Wii will just edge out Xbox 360 if NSMB is in my lower range for the title, if it becomes a big hit the gap won't be close. PS3 will sell a few million less than Xbox 360 mainly because of Modern Warfare 2.

Just quoting my own predictions from earlier this thread. I obviously completely underestimated Modern Warfare 2. The same will happen to my NSMB numbers. The rest should be pretty close, except for those 2 mystery Wii titles that need to sell an average of 1 million each.
