It's been stated before that demos and videos cut into development time, because they have to make the code and data fit those at that moment rather than continuing to make them fir the finished product.
Not claiming that's a certainty, but it is wrong to assuming it's certain there is no info to hide bad quality.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
