Death Note 2.0 - Sign-up Thread

Death Note is my variant on the Mafia party game that's been on VGC.  Each player in the game is assigned a role which is part of a team and they do their best to see that their team wins. 

Death Note itself is an Anime based on a character, Light Yagami, finding a "Death Note," basically a notebook that can kill anybody within 40 seconds just so long as you have a face and name. Light chooses to kill off all criminals in the world, whereas, many people believe that no human should have the power to kill people at will and instead let the law handle crimes. Supporters of Light give him a name, "Kira," meaning "Killer."  Opposers of Kira are looking to arrest him and convict him of murder.

The two teams are:  Townsfolk and Kira. 

The game is separated into Day and Night.  During the Day, the Townsfolk votes to (hopefully) arrest a Kira member meanwhile the Kira pretend to be Townsfolk and try to arrest innocent people.  During the night, Kira chooses to kill one person and get themselves closer to winning.

I hope to start this game probably sunday or monday.

DISCLAIMER: This game has a high degree of difficulty and is not for players new to Mafia

 Goals

• The Townsfolk win when Light is arrested.
• The Mafia win when they outnumber (or equal) the Townsfolk.

How to Sign-up & Play

• Post your name in the list below.
• When the "Death Note - Game Thread" is made, you will receive a PM with your role.
• Post once in the game thread to "confirm" that you're still playing.
• After I post "Day 1 begin" you may begin accusing people and chatting.

Typical Roles

Townsfolk

• You win when Kira is found and arrested.
• During the day, you vote to arrest someone. 
  
  • You want to arrest Kira so you win the game.
  • You don't want to be arrested because you can't win if you're in jail(though your team can...).
    
    
• During the night, you sleep peacefully and, depending on Kira, you may never wake up.

L

• You win when Kira is found and arrested.
  
  
• During the day, you vote to arrest someone.
  • You want to arrest Kira so you win the game.
  • You don't want to be arrested because you can't win if you're dead (though your team can...).
    
    
• During the night, you choose someone to investigate by sending me a PM.
  • If my response is "guilty" then the person is a Kira supporter.
  • If my response is "innocent" then the person is not a Kira supporter.

Light/Kira Supporter

If you are assigned as Light, you are KIRA himself, and you are in sole possession of the Death Note. You are the leader of the Kira Supporters, and have the final say in whose name gets written into the death note. Additionally, you are especially cunning, so much so that even the world famous detective, L, wasn't able to definitively PROVE that you really are Kira. So on top of your death note powers, you will show up as innocent if you are investigated by L.  HOWEVER, If you are discovered and arrested, then the game ends immediately in favor of the town.

• You win when you outnumber or make up half the living players.
  
  
• During the day, you vote to arrrest someone.
  • You want to arrest someone who is not a Kira supporter so you win the game.
  • You don't want to be arrested because you can't win if you're dead (though your team can...).
    
    
• During the night, you talk with your fellow Kira supporters and choose someone to murder by sending me a PM.
  • If someone  is protecting your target, you fail to kill them and waste a night.
  • If no one is protecting your target, they die... in painfully creative ways.

Other roles are quite possible.

Misc. Rules

• Do not talk about the game outside of the game thread unless your role allows it (i.e. Kira).
• Lurkers are absolutely NOT allowed. If you don't post during a day phase, you are subject to getting mod-killed and replaced without notice.
• Do not edit your posts. If you are found editting a post, you are subject to getting mod killed and replaced.
• Do not post your role PM.
• Do not talk (post) after night falls.
• Do not talk after you've been killed, arrested, or otherwise discombobulated.
• If you do not PM me with your night action within a reasonable time period, then you forfeit your night action.
• Don't take the game too seriously, remember it's all just for fun.

This game will be markedly different in that it will be dark. I will not reveal roles once people die/get arrested. Also, only 14 slots will be made available for this game. I will be taking in 20 names, though. If you end up being #15-20, then you will be a backup player and will fill in any role of anyone who's been Mod-Killed, or who's been banned or cannot continue for whatever reason.

Oh, and majority of votes (meaning 50%+1) will decide who gets arrested. If there is no majority, or if a tie cannot be broken, then its essentially a no-arrest.

Also, day phases will always last at least 12 hours. This is in order to emulate an actual day, and also to allow people time to read and post, and to defend themselves of any accusations.
