The Wii will NOT hit 50% market share. Its chances of that are pretty much gone. The Wii ate up market share early on when its price was $250 versus consoles at $400-$600. Now that those consoles are price competitive, it won't happen. In fact, I expect its market share to continually drop as an overall trend. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if it ended this generation with 40% or less of the market share. Just look at how its been doing in Japan lately...

They have no chance to get 50 percent now. PS3 and 360 prices are too low for that to happen.

SNES vs Genesis.
And prices are not the only factor.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Yeah say whatever you want if the last few months are anything to by, its not getting 50%. ever. your saying Wii is coming with a BUNCK of games in 2010 so are the Ps360 sitting idly twiddling their thumbs? no PS3 gets Motion, GT5 & FF13 360 gets NATAL, Halo Reach & FF13 |
True, but the last few months were the Wii's worst. It had no big releases and had over 24 months since a price cut. It wouldn't make sense to make all assumptions on just the last few months, ignoring how the Wii can sell when it's in demand (2008).
As for dropping below 40% marketshare, that's pretty much impossible. Even if the Wii stopped selling (right now), it'd take around an entire year for the HD consoles to make it up there.
I think the last thread I read (regarding 50% market share) had many people predicting around 2011. I'd say 2010 holidays would be the earliest.
Yes, as LordNight said, this is the first generation after the 16 bit one where the winning console doesn´t have more than half the market.
For those who like competition, this is good.

I think that, if implemented properly, the Vitality Sensor could more than offset any potential marketshare losses from PMC or Natal (and that, of course, assumes that they launch well)
A lot of ifs involved, i suppose, but it still works in that direction. Wii has a better chance of getting favor with PS3 and 360's markets with their 2010 lineup than PS3 or 360 have to moving in on Wii's market.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
I dont think this has been in doubt for a while now. No way the Wii is ganna hit 50%, ever.
The Wii is a great machine but the HD twins are also great machines. This is by FAR the best video game generation ever.
Be happy my fellow gamers. Be you 360, PS3 or Wii owners. We are all winners.
We still got to wait and see.
Who's the best Pac, Nas, and Big. Just leave it to that.
