"The intent of Natal was to get rid of the controller"

I don't thing any video game company believes that. There is a huge potential for games without controllers and that's what Natal is intended for.

There will be a few hardcore games like racing sims for example which will allow players to use Natal instead of a pad, but that's about it. Natal for hardcore gaming will never get
further than being an option.

Agreed.  That's why I personally see more value in the Sony motion control.  Best of both worlds.  Combine Wii-mote functionality with the PS Eye.

Didn't E3 show PSeye can behave as natal?

When they had the presnotor hold sony wands it showed hid whole body moving on stage with a saber and mace.

So if they really wanted to they could easily add a function where ur body movements enact gameplay.

"Rainbird: Why don't Nintendo and Microsoft Copy the Sony Blog?

Bagenome:You can't shoot things on a blog, and babies can't read, so I don't think it would suit either one's target audience."

Honestly, do JRPG makers even realize how hard it is to save the world? That shit is impossible!

Whatever they do with Project Natal, it better be fun to do.

Why do people think that just because they can't (or refuse to) think of something for Natal then the developers won't be able to either?

It showed no such thing.  The only thing the Sony Motion Controller can track is the 3D spatial coordinates of the ball at the end of the controller.  That includes things like tilt and rotation, but there is no way for the controller to know, for example, what you're legs and feet are doing in 3 dimensional space.

There is also no speech recognition or facial recognition.

This is one of the few gripes Natal has. It tries to be more than just motion sensing. But what if people come over to your house, or if you have a party with loads of people? It will get crowded and Natal will sense too much interference. It will also make it harder for you to move.

I want to accept Natal as the next big thing, and I believe it can, but its a little too early for that and there are very little alternatives for problems that can occur, which is a reason why I don't see Natal as being a great success.

Gaming was meant to be played with controls. Although the Wii uses motion sensing, it still has controls and recognizes them, even using the Gamecube controller for some games. You being the controller, its too much work. I never really viewed gaming as a tiring experience, its just something you do when you're bored or when you want to interact with friends.

This is the true definition of owning.

You may as well stick a pencile in your eye... you'll have more fun sitting in the emergency room holding it stead wondering how you'll look with a jaunty eye-patch...

These people can't seem to think in even the slightest of inovative ways... oh no who wants to have a 3D Head Tracking interface inside a car!!!!  who would want the ability to interact with a game in 3D without having to buy a f'n 3D TV.  The damn thing tracks in 3D so coupling that with a 3D interface you can literally interact inside of a world at least that's what your eyes would tell you... and who would want that... that's retarded... /ranting off

Gears on rails would be fun! I would be keen to play it like that. Actually for control think about the Nintendo gun thing, it would be fun to be able to use the LTD edition chainsaw gun as an actual controller.

Tease.
