Forums - Sales - Sony Wand and NATAL, minimum of success?

Pyro as Bill said:
I don't see either being a major success.

Natal may be an impressive piece of kit but I've still not seen any software that makes it a must buy.
Sony may get Wii ports but they aren't going to get the most successful ports.

I don't see the Wii's current userbase 'upgrading'. We have an 'upgraded' Wii Sports already, will Sony Sports or X-Box Sports really make people buy a whole new system to play? I don't see it. I still don't see an equivalent of the balance board yet either.

If Sony/MS can't get their cameras sitting next to the sensor bar by the time next gen starts they could be in a lot of trouble when Nintendo's next system releases.

A system capable of playing all third party multiplats, an improved online system, a balance board, the strongest 'motion IP' catalog and arguably the strongest first party catalog, backwards compatibility and a retro catalog of Virtual Console calibre will be unstoppable.

Your opinion is your opinion, and I wont argue that, but @ bolded above...I do have a couple of questions:

1)  NO games have been announced for Natal yet...so that would explain you not seeing any for it.  A bit early to call that then, don't you think?

2)  What link do you have to prove that Sony won't get succesful ports?  In fact, that seems to be the ones Sony would TARGET.  NOW if you mean, they won't get NINTENDO games, that is fair (and true) but not really what you typed.

On topic, I think both are using this gen as an 'extended beta' for their new control systems.  HOW integrated they are in the new generation will depend on how well they do, but I think both have invested too much in R&D just to let them die.

From what I've learned of gaming platforms, I'd say that they won't be successful unless they become at least slightly mandatory and packaged along with the console.

"1) NO games have been announced for Natal yet...so that would explain you not seeing any for it. A bit early to call that then, don't you think?"

In that, I have to agree. The Wiimote was supposedly going to fail because there were no games. This was when no games were announced yet, so it was clear that notion was BS.

Again, we have to wait to see if either has a killer app.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

1. I'm not just talking about games I'm talking about any software. Even if Milo is as intelligent as Skynet I still don't see it as a must buy or have much use in gaming. The epileptic fit game doesn't look like it will have people buying a new system to play either, nor does looking at the underside of my Mii's shoe. Nintendo rejected the camera tech for a reason.

2. By 'most successful ports' I mean the only good motion games on the Wii, Nintendo games.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

PS3 waggle gimmick is more likely to succeed due to the similarity with wiis waggle. It will be easier for people to pick it up and use it. Its will be a easy move for them especially since PS3 is more friendly towards their types of games while 360 is a all out hardcore game console.

Also Sonys 1st party is a hell of alot more bigger and more capable in supporting their thing compared to MS support to natal.

BS. You don't make those consumers buy your product. You make a product they want to buy.

I'd argue it's actually a LOT harder to get casual consumers to buy your product then Hardcore ones.

Afterall hardcore gamers are the ones that buy consoles... every generation... and one would think buy more games on average.

It's harder to win over casual gamers which is something that should be common sense but largely ignored because it flies in the face of feeling elitist when it turn out you actually have the lower standards.

Casual gamers actually have higher standards then hardcore gamers.  They're just different ones.

Hardcore gamers will buy what they see as the best games... but you don't have to target games so much at them but make them the best.  They're hooked... they're the kind of people buying Mediocre shooters with gimics like Time Shift or Dark Sector just because they're hooked and there isn't anything else on the schedule.

Casuals, you have to target them specifically.  They won't stand for something they see as mediocre because they have other interets they like as much if not more.  You need to grab their attention.

wow, that statment is full of win.  that same idea has been floating around my head for quite a while and i just didn't know how to say it right.

bravo!

As will either be successful? Who can say.

I'll be interested in a Sony's if they can deliver on some of the really obvious things that should of been done with the wii by now...

And Natal... I'll pretty much be interested no matter what. Unless it ends up like the "Sega CD" and only offers one or two very limited style of game.

The big thing holding the Wiimote back was the lack of Motion+, but it wasn't technically or economically feasible until now.

Neither will be really successful and I doubt Sony at least is banking much on it. ( MSFT seems to do a bit too much communication around Natal and are setting themselves for a huge disappointment if it fails).

The main reason both won't encounter much success is that the majority of the software on either platforms won't support it( even if software started to support those once they are released, the defining games on each platform won't support it , be it GTA4, Halo3, Uncharted 2, Cod4 and MF2 and so on...)

As for getting ports, there aren't that many Wii third party titles that are begging for a port to HD consoles  ( aside maybe from EA Sports Active but you need a balance board, not Natal or  Sphere).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Probably true.  Still waiting to see if anyone delivers on either console.
