Forums - PC - Getting my PC setup for 3D *yay*

Ok finallly got this thing set up around 11:30. I was having issues since i use a DVI switcher between ps3 and PC. It was limiting my khz for a long time without realizing it so it pretty much made playing in 3D impossible. I was confused then i finally remembered the cord and did a direct hookup and got it working.

Ok now for the actual review. I will tell you right off the bat......this thing is AMAZING. It works on non supported games, as long as that game is 3D and has depth to it. It varying degrees though. I tried....ahem.....sexy beach 3.....with it and it didn't do much if anything at all. I plugged in Aion and Americas Army 3....and those games it handled like a dream. I just wish i could take the shadows off in AA3 cause they someone glitch with the 3D.

The thing with this though is your eyes need to adjust the first time you use it. Sure it looks great when you first put it on, but once your eyes get use to it, you can turn the depth up without having it ghost. IF you turn the depth up high right off the bat you will be seeing double images. That being said after that first initial 30 minutes....be prepared to go from whoah thats cool, to OMFG LOOK AT THAT!.

The games I tried were Left 4 Dead, Oblivion, Aion, Americas Army 3, and Mass Effect.
They were all spectacular in 3D. It was gorgeous and almost put a tear to my eye. This thing is not a gimmick, it literally will work with almost every 3D game our already, and it does it's job well on supported, and most unsupported titles. Guns in FPS even if low modeled all of a sudden become almost life like looking.

This is not a gimmick, and i can tel you this stuff is likely here to stay. I have absolute no slowdowns on gameplay. I do have a nice rig though so i took SLI support off to use just one GTX 285 and once again no slowdowns, at least not visible. FPS did go down but when i have games running with just one GTX at 175 fps ....140 isn't gonna make a difference lol considering the hz is 60 per eye.
If you have the cash and a decent computer...the money is worth it i have never been so satisfied with a 3D product before.

Could it run Crysis in 60 fps or above? I imagine it could with that beast of a processor that you have.

Dang this would be one expensive upgrade. 120hz monitor ($250) + better video card to compensate for the framerate drop (for me at least, $150) + $200 glasses. That's almost as much as my entire PC cost me.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it though.

Crysis actually doesn't look that good with it, with one GTX 285 it was running at around 45 fps, the water was completly fucked up and for it to work you had to take anti alising off.

Damn you soulsamurai, I was hoping you were going to say it was crap. I've been looking at this for awhile and haven't seen many bad reviews. I hear the Wii emulator works with this too which I'd love to try.

I use my PC as a HTPC so 22" wouldn't be enough. The DLPs are rare or too expensive in the UK but I found the projector for £400 on US amazon and I'm tempted to import. It's £700 here and I'm due a new one. It's 720/768 so it will be less of a hog on the system. If my GPU wasn't Ati I might have jumped in already.

Is it more or less impressive than SD to HD? Is Left 4 Dead as good as people say? What's TF2 like?

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Left 4 Dead is as good as people say and is one of the best titles i have ever played with 3D, when character is near you ya get to notice just exactly how much detail went into these guys and not only that....they're look like a full figured body you can touch. I just loaded up farcry 2 and that game also looked bloody amazing. The bump mapping of the textures pop out making things like car seats and just simple stuff like that look amazing. I have to say it's the best purchase i have made as far as gaming goes.

I can't say anything about TF2 as I havn't played it with 3D since i don't own it. Im going to the toys r us 2 for 1 sale today and im gonna pick up the orange box, and...2 other games, but im not sure what ones. I'll let you know.

On a side not, i loaded up some 3D pictures with it, (the ones that you always see two images side by side and your like uh ok?) and they look fantastic, i don't know how it does it but you can actually look around, it's very very cool.
