Forums - Sony - Uncharted 2 only took 18 months to be developed

Well here's the quote in case you don't want to watch the video...

"Really we’re on kind of a break right now because we really killed ourselves on this one. I don’t think people quite realize that we’ve actually made this game in 18 months and that was a longer single-player experience, a feature length movie basically in terms of the cut scenes and all of the online features in multiplayer and the co-op. And we kind of look back and said: ‘how did we do that?’ We basically went into zombie mode and just killed ourselves to do it. And so everybody’s taking a lot of time off and just recharging the battery right now."

Isn't it impressive for such a high quality game to have shorter development time than most games in this generation???

I dont understand, i remember the developers saying that started on number 2 right after they finished 1, and its now 23ish months seen thats been released? I guess holidays take up a big part of their game development schedule :)

I see it as 24 months.

Why do you see it as 24 months?

Cause devs often say things that aren't perfectly true.  I can't imagine they had a 6 month break between the finish of Uncharted 1 and start of Uncharted 2, it just dont make any sense. Its impossible. Cos there's exacly 2 years between the games.

^ the game gone gold a while ago. they probably some months break.

Amazing how they can pump out one of the best games this gen in under 2 years, when it takes games like FF XIII (6 years) and GT5 (5 years)...

Yes, that may be possible but if it is so then the same break should have happened with the first Uncharted when it went gold.

FF 13 and GT5 also didn't have their entire graphics engine built already and assets from a previous game on the same platform to use. They also didn't have the gameplay fundamentals already done.

It's easier to make sequels. case in point: Gears 2, Halo ODST, Mass Effect 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2.

They obviously are fast..
