Forums - Gaming - Better Holiday Lineup in terms of Value and Sales? PS3 or 360?

Note: I am not talking about Blu Ray, Net Flix, Free Online, Avatars etc.  I am just talking about the 2009 holiday season (September, October, November, December).

Holiday Line-up:

360:

Halo ODST

Fornza 3

Left for Dead 2

Magna Carta 2

GTA Expansion

Southpark XBLA

Lucidity XBLA

Shadow Complex XBLA (Falls outside holiday window so may not count)

Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm

PS3:

Uncharted 2

Demon's Souls

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (Not really exclusive but offers new content)

Ratchet and Clank

Looking at this from a value standpoint, I think the 360 has an edge.  Great FPS, Great Racing Sim and a Great Co-op Shooter combined with a lot of arcade titles (Shadow Complex is in there as it came out pretty recently August 19 and it is still being promo'ed on XBL) and extended social networking functionality.  I think the key that ties this all together for Microsoft is their innate ability to market and execute a strategic plan to bring so much diversity around the holidays.  For new users (someone who has not been exposed to any "nextgen" console) it seems hard not to go with the 360.

To elaborate I think of 2 scenarios: 1. Purchasing a console as a gift for someone who is between 15-30 2. Purchasing a console for myself on boxing day etc. (no preferance or exposure to consoles prior to the holidays)

1. Now if I was buying a gift for someone who I knew had no preference, I would say to myself, get the one that has the best selection and offers the most amount of choice and usability.  For this holiday I think the 360 clearly has both of these if you look solely at this holidays offering or at what is/will be marketed.  2.  If I myself had no preference and my criteria was selection and value proposition, I would also go with the 360.  I think another factor is the economic climate and which company better markets and bundles items that we (consumers/users) actually want.  Both systems have some pretty good bundles this holiday so I am not sure which will sell better.

Will the 360 outsell the PS3 during the holidays...I think so.  Thoughts?!?!

BTW I am not a sole 360 owner, my PSNID is Lockedshot, add me if you like. :)

biased much?

looking at your list tells me you don't know much about PS3 ;)

Lol PS3 has Facebook and Twitter and all other websites on the net (including VG chartz).

Also you put in a lot from Live but nothing from PSN. You also 'forget' to mention FFXIII (Japan) which will be huge. And ODST has been released now, not exactly a 'holiday' line-up. If you wish to go back in time we could add Killzone 2 to PS3 which easily blows out ODST (check metacritic).

Looks somewhat biased if you asked me.

How so when I stated holiday line-up.  I was not talking about the game library/functionality to each console, simply on the marketing messages that the companies will communicate over the holidays.

So you're saying that actually someone could pick up a 360 over PS3 to play South Park off XBL? :)

And then not consider blu-ray, free game hosting, etc.?

First, the social networking functionality being released on the 360 has been streamlined for use for the platform.  Social networking applications do not work well on the PS3 currently (I have one I no).

To your second point, I am talking about the holiday release window (which includes ODST and does not include Killzone 2).  The only game I mentioned which may fall outside of this windown is Shadow Complex which I already noted.

So no not biased, just stated what each company has laid out of the holidays.

Well again, it goes back to my point about the marketing messages.  Now you may be right with the Blu-Ray functionality; (Although you can get a Blu Ray player for sub $200 now) however, Sony and Microsoft will be advertising new titles and new offers for the 2009 holiday season.  You may have noticed the Uncharted 2 commercials for example.  So based on what is or will be advertised and based on what consumer perception will be based off of this, I think the 360 will sell more.

PS3 will outsell XBOX 360 comfortably

I live in Europe. An ad in NA =/= to an ad worldwide. Here where I live, many people will check specs of a console and what it incorporates to determine what to buy. Marketing campaigns will only serve to point out highlights. Right now checking specs and libraries could lead people to lean more to the PS3 don't you think?

I think both lists are incomplete. But given the delay of an awful lot of games I say the Xbox 360 has the edge regardless.

But I agree with Puffy, short of a 360 price cut the PS3 will comfortably outsell the Xbox 360 in all regions bar the Americas.
