I might be mistaken but didn't Sony do the same thing with Killzone 2 or some other game?

You are mistaken, certainly with regard to Killzone 2, I followed progress on that from the very beginning before even the target trailer.

Your right they just said a CGI trailer was in game footage my bad.

Pick up a plate and just hold it in your hand or anything you can think of. I think natal has a lot of potential, hopefully it will help people lose weight as a bonus side effect.

You can't hold anything.  At least in the racing game they've been showing.  Since there's no buttons, you need to constantly move your hands farther apart and closer together.

Somehow, I think that no matter how good Natal's final experience might be, there will be the same people who insist that it's "not their thing" and therefore still "sucks".

The second-guessing and hate by some people here is amazing. :)

I guess our saving grace is that smart people are working on project. That smart and creative designers are energized and excited by the possibilities.

And to the people who feel that Sony's wands are going to be a vastly superior experience... well, considering that Sony are doing nothing but photocopying the Wiimote, it's not surprising you feel that way; it's been done before so you don't have to have imagination to figure out how it'd work.

Just leave the imagination to the smart guys and girls doing the actual work, and settle back to more sniping.

Where have you seen a link that says its impossible to hold something in your hand with natal?  The only reason they haven't shown it with something is because they want to differentiate their system away from the Wii's and PS3's.

And the part about moving your hands farther apart or closer together is total bull.  If you want to go faster you simply move your foot up or down.

Correct, the gas and brake were controlled by the feet.

They dropped the hand-distance control method altogether then?

I think you might be referring to a demonstration of a camera that is similar to Natal from 3DV or something.  Then again, I only vaguely remember anything about controlling the speed by the hand distance.

@ selnor

I think future events will be similar as with regard to what happened with XNE. That was hyped much as well, but in the end most people (even from the US) actually prefer the XMB.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=375796

I think people who will own both Sony wands and Natal in the end probably prefer Sony's solution for ease of use, implementation and functionality.

I also preferred the old blades menus the XBox 360 had originally, a quote from me (2007): "Regarding the interface the Xbox 360 sports a very colorful easy to use user interface"

Are you serious? Firstly Neogaf is a known Sony forum. Basically all their love Sony. 2nd how can you compare a dashboard to a new type of gaming. It's radically different from holding a controller. And it takes thinking out of the box to implement new ideas for gaming with it. Not just saying how is this going to work with an FPS. A developer needs to think FPS games will change and be very different to what we have now. Thats the difference. The mind is the limitation, not the device. Sony's wands are to similar to what is already out. Natal is vastly different according to EVERY developer.

Also looking at XNE Natal would never have worked with blades. XNE will be beautiful with Natal navigating aka Minority Report. NXE is alot better than baldes. easier to use, things are categorized and it looks great. One of my friends have the blades still ( no internet ) and it's horrible using that now.

I think Natal technology should make us all happy, because its irruption means that things are changing since the Wii came up in the first place. But I don't see Microsoft's peripheral overtaking the Wii anytime soon. I am really excited to see what happens on a future console generation.
On the other hand, as the article points out, Natal itself won't be enjoyable if some issues are not considered. I think Microsoft will need to incorporate some other device with bottons and a pad, whether they like it or not. I think the best possible combination would be in between the Wiimote+nunchuck and Natal. Something pretty similar to Sony's solution.

You need to think out of the box. Whats the point of having new technology if FPS's for example still work the same way? Try this line of thinking. The way the game is designed and played needs to change. Evolution. It needs to be new, not rehashed same FPS experience with Natal movement looking around adaption. See. Think out of the box.
