You have a point!
It was planned for this holiday. This is both common-sense and supported by comments made by Sony officials (including Yamauchi himself) as well as materials distributed at GamesCom indicating a Q4 release.
However, no official date was ever given so it can't official be said that it was delayed.

Doesn't Sony Q4 end end March 2010?

Proud Sony Rear Admiral
Delayed 3 years and wait for it...
March is just the japan date and they can always change it a few more times.

Maybe it's the fact that Sony was once on top of the mountain in this industry, and the fall from grace has been swift and brutal. The worst thing about being on top is the fall to the bottom, and maybe the transition from PS2 dominance to PS3 heel-dragging has had a damaging effect on the fanboy psyche, leaving them vulnerable and insecure. Maybe fanboys are suffering from a severe case of paranoid delusion, brought about by denial that the PS3 is in third place when once Sony was leading the charge.

Maybe the Best Game Never? Although it would be quite a fight to grab that title from the Duke...
You people do realise that PD takes their time to perfect and polish every aspect that they can when releasing a full iteration of GT? True, the jump from GT2 to GT3 was only two years, but GT3 was a step back on the series, with less cars than GT2, they only had to focus on creating the game engine per se.
But just take a look at GT3 - GT4, GT3 was released back in 2001 and GT4 released in 2005, 4 years in development, the same engine with just a few touches, almost 4x the amount of cars and almost double the amount of tracks.
So now you have a completely new game engine, with even more cars, more tracks and a hell of a lot more features than any GT game has ever had, and you're complaining that the game is taking so long to release. I'm a massive GT fan myself, but I know that PD delivers on their promise and that GT5 will be one of the best racing experiences ever, since GT5P gaves us a good upcoming view already.
People have all the right to complain, but, as it have been stated, they never gave us an official release date until TGS09, so anything else was just speculation and false hopes.

Sure, Polyphony Digital said they could release "anytime", but they haven't really announced any dates, until they said it was for march 2010 right? So, that's not really delayed at all, am i right? |
This is one of the very few cases where I am on Sony's side. Polyphony Digital blew their cover and sold themselves down the river by arrogantly saying they could've released the game at any time during 2008. Sony wanted to blow the roof off of 2009 and seal it with the launch of GT5. If anyone is being pressured in truth its PD, because all they are doing is stalling inevitable and delaying what should already be here.
