Forums - Sony - Could Uncharted 2 push PS3 sales above 300,000 and if so, how much?

Seeing as its a sequel to a new IP on PS3 it doesn't have the impact with previous Sony owners that an established game has that was on the PS2 or PS1.

Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII, and God of War III on the other hand should push systems well over 300,000. Probably by an additional 300,000. One of my friends bought the slim because he knows he absolutely cannot miss out on God of War III. He'll be buying Uncharted 2 in the meantime though :)

Uncharted 2 may not be the biggest driver for people to pick up a PS3 this year, but it should sell a lot of games. I think it will be 2nd place to only Modern Warfare 2.

So 300,000 consoles sold Uncharted 2 week 1? Sure, why not? I'm basing that off the sales week for Oct 3rd 2009 and it would be only a 63,000 increase. Not huge, but this game is carrying lots of hype so I think its possible. I'll guess 320,000 the week that Uncharted 2 releases. So approximately 83,000 increase.

Yes, i think the same way. Uncharted 2 its the bigest exclusive this holyday season, and deserve it. I met many friends that already bough the PS3 slim because of Uncharted 2.

To move 300K, that would be almost 27% increase and to move 320K, it would be a 35% increase. Unlikely.



MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I really think that the original games had carved out an audience for each console that wasn't there before. In other words, they were system sellers. Now, the audience that these games created are still here. And they're eagerly anticipating each game (See: ODST and WiiFit Plus software sales). But will these games create a brand new audience that will drastically increase hardware sales? I doubt it.

this, if the ps3 sees any increase uncharted release week it is because of some unknown factor known not to be uncharted.

well the ps3 is already on the rise if you check hardware data then you will know that consoles just tend to rise that week anyway so yh the ps3 will rise ;)

I agree with what most people have been saying, I would think maybe a relatively small boost back up to 250k is possible. But Uncharted 2 will continue to help PS3 sales as it will be the heavily marketed PS3 exclusive title for the holidays.

sequels to games released on the SAME platform hardly ever sell systems

The only game that has done this is probably COD....with COD4

Uncharted 2 has a power to do this. I believe.

The first game no one knew and the PS3 was expensive, now all the world know Uncharted 2 and the PS3 is cheap.
