Forums - Sales - PS3 will never beat 360 this generation.

You should know better than to put out a thread like this in a ps3 fanboy dominated website. They refuse to believe that sony could ever be last in a console war, especially to an american company.

Face it: MS did something right this gen and sony flopped due to its arrogance.

2007 called, it wants its post back.

other than extreme price cutting and natal being the messiah of video game features there is no way the 360 can stop the ps3.

the launch spike of the slim compared to the spike of the wii price cut is more evidence that there is a huge demand for ps3s.

this demand will cause fence-line buyers to go with the ps3 over the 360 when the decision is close. since the wand and natal do pretty similar things, it is not reasonable to conclude one will have a more significant impact than the other. m$ does not have the new ip's to move units like sony does.

this leaves price-cutting. i don't think m$ will drop the price any time soon. when they do, i think the cut needs to be at least 100 dollars in order to substantially affect the sales war. i find this doubtful.

So you don't believe Microsoft can redesign the 360 into a new more reliable (perhaps smaller) revision and relaunch with a Natal bundled package at a competitive price point that will do everything the PS3 move did.  The only reason the PS3 slim had such an effect is it had to stay at the old price point for far too long because the previous price cut Sony did was a panic move to stop the PS3 being killed off early on this generation.  All this price cut has done is given Sony a chance to compete and perhaps eventually beat Microsoft at a cost of huge profit losses.  If Microsoft get a 360 out there next year at $249 with Natal bundled then its all over for the PS3, and you can quote me on that.  Sony just threw all their cards on the table this generation and have absolutely nothing left, even Bluray players will be budget next year taking another source of buyers away.

For the Natal doubters, fair enough it may not live up to all the hype once in gamers hands but the Wii has proven that a product doesn't have to be perfect to get people to buy, it just has to get people excited enough to tell everyone they know about it.

no i don't think m$ can do what sony did.  nintendo couldn't do what sony did.  why not?  it's simple.  sony's launch price excluded a large percentage of the market.  i've gone over this before, but if you look at the price cut spikes for the respective consoles, the reason the sony spike is biggest is because there were the largest group of people who wanted one but were excluded due to price.  the same wasn't really true for the other two consoles.  the selling point of every gen since the sega genesis has been 300 bucks.  that's the price people expect to pay.  thus there are not tons of people who want a nintendo or xbox who are waiting out the price.

if m$ wants to pull the kind of  numbers sony did with a new sku they will have to cut the price by at least 100 dollars.

and regarding budget blu-ray players...don't you think if they get cheaper across the board that it will also mean the ps3 gets cheaper?

i won't comment on profit losses for sony as that is not really the issue.

next year might very well see a natal bundled xbox, and then we'll see a wand bundled slim.  with the huge deficit sony has on m$ regarding weekly sales, they can afford to let m$ cut to 249 and still chip away at the total sales lead.

i think what you meant to say is that it's all over for m$.

I've thought about this some more in light of recent events...

It looks like PS3 could beat the 360 by 1m shipped units end Sep 31 Q if VG chartz is right. Then I could see, if all goes well for Sony, PS3 picking up another 2 mil over the 4Q.

That would still leave them 4.6m behind. Gains will be harder to come by in the slow times of 2010, IE 1, 2, 3Q. So it comes down to can Sony gain significantly in 4Q 010, against Natal, Reach, etc? If Sony wants to overtake 360 in shipments in any timely fashion, they will need to.

Tall order imo.

Sharky...95 post into VGC, you really hit a HR with the thread!  This thing is going to go on forever...next Jan. you can be sure somebody will dregde this up to hold some people accountable for their predictions...so I'm on record as saying...while I don' think it will...there is always a chance...nice political CYA answer.

Nope I didn't mean to say that at all.  I'll not bother picking your post to pieces though as its not going to change your overly rosy opinion of the PS3 affairs.

YES IT WILL!!!!!

You never know what will happen.

The 360 will always perform well in NA although there has been a small fight back with the Slim who knows how long this will happen for though, but reckon there will be similar sales of the 360 and PS3 in NA for the foreseeable future.

The PS3 is now starting to outsell the 360 in Others and this will continue for the forseeable future although it won't be huge numbers of a difference IMHO.

In Japan though, this is where the difference could in fact make a difference.  The PS3 has sold nearly 1m units this year so far compared to under 300k for the 360 even though the 360 had a surge and the PS3 had terrible times.

For there to be a chance in the short term (ie over the next 2 years), then the PS3 must outsell the 360 by approx 2-3m units by the early part of next year.

Although I still see the PS3 having a longer life than the 360 over the course.  Don't forget that the 360 has a solid 12 months head start in NA and 18 months of a start in Europe, so the the PS3 has kind of catched up, but the price has been the killer for Sony.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

The sales gap between PS3 and 360 has fallen by 1 million in only 5 weeks since the PS3 price drop. Huge Xmas sales period for PS3 should easily see another 2 or 3 million erased from the deficit to close out 2009. Gap between PS3 and 360 to be down to 4.25 to 5.25 million by 31 December 2009.

The XBox 360 is not expected to have price drops until sometime in 2010. The console sales gap will be erased completely by the time a $149 XBox 360 Arcade appears September 2010. The $149 XBox 360 will have little impact on XBox 360 sales. PS3 has a lot of exclusive games that will boost its sales, whereas the XBox 360 only has Halo:Reach. Project Natal unknown and untested - I would not hold my breath on that really catching on.

The writing is clearly on the wall. The XBox 360 will never outsell the PS3 in weekly sales ever again. Game Over XBox 360. The PS3 wins.

I'll bet accounts on a permenant ban that the 360 outsells the PS3 WW again this generation, if the situation is so bad then put your account where your mouth is.

don't be silly slowmo. Thats a stupid bet. First of all the mods wouldnt enforce it. Secondly whos to say either one of you will be around in another 3 years. Lastly, even if the Ps3 outsells the 360 LT whos to say you wont be like "lol ps3 didnt outsell the 360 last genertion because the generation ended when the 360 stopped selling"
