It's just the ignorance in this thread. Anyone who says gran turismo is not a racing sim is out of their minds. Thats _ALL_ gran turismo is. And a very very good one. Physics for crashing were not possible when GT came out on the playstation 2. At least with the scope of what GT had.
Along comes many games with good damage, then forza 2 has good damage, great damage actually.. and thats good.
The main point? Damage in forza 3 is barely an improvement over forza 2, if at all.
Slamming into walls is still not realistic at all.
You can still bump into people and keep driving.
You can still grind the wall, you'll just loose some paint and slow down.
It's not so much of a big deal, we are still years away from realistic damage modeling, its hard enough to recreate a SPECIFIC crash realistically! Let alone on the go.
Case in point, Turn 10 made a breathtaking game. Its fantastic.
But let me explain something to you.
The racing sim aspects of Forza 3 are NOT what makes it great.
What makes Forza 3 so great is how it goes FAR BEYOND a racing sim. If you compare the racing sim aspects to GT5 I am sure it will be inferior, its impossible for that not to be the case.
Forza 3 however, offers the most amazing career mode i've ever played, a technical marvel of a livery editor, and amazing community aspects.
The leveling up of your car and character is so fucking cool. and the tuning is un matched.
Forza 3 is a lot more than racing sim, its the sum of its parts that make it great. GT has a long way to go to offer that kind of experience.
But when it comes to JUST driving, i have absolutely no doubt that GT5 will be far superior, and everyone should. They have spent 5 years working out every last bit of how each individual car works in every situation.
