Good point. Any of these 3 are better then Atari or Sega were.
Amen to that...
But don't get me wrong, those companies were great too for their time.
ill point out this out, that form on wiki is very off. they do not show all what each company has. each most likely own far more than that.
ill get to looking for a better source.

I can't believe how many games Sony and Microsoft can publish and develop in house and yet some Nintendo fans will still act as though they have never helped create a single one.
Y'know how when people say the Wii has no 3rd party games you just shake your head and make a list in your head of awesome 3rd party games that have come to Wii? That's the situation I'm in right now.

oh yeah Atari and Sega definately had their moments and were good in the late 70's and the 90's respectively. But boy Sony and MS sure shook up the industry and Nintendo has been solid all along.

Nu Uh!
"What are you talking about Sony and Microsoft makes this many games bllaaa bllaaa blllaaaaaaa." Even if Sony and Microsoft published 10x as much as Nintendo they still aren't game companies.
Every time I hear about exclusives it's usually about them getting some 3rd party to not release it on other systems. What about making the 1st party games the exclusive that makes people want to buy the system? They don't do that because they aren't game companies.

Nintendo Franchises, 30 in total, go here to see them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Nintendo_franchises
Sony Franchises, 81 in total, go here to see them:
Microsoft Franchises, 65 in total, go here to see them:
Now, those are just the number of franchises but I am sure that you are wondering how many games have come out of these franchises. Well, if we look at 2008 (2009 is not over yet so we should not use it). Microsoft has released 19 games in 2008 (from Xbox 360/PC and Xbox Live combined). Sony has released 42 games in 2008 (from Playstation 2, PSP, Playstation Network and Playstation 3 combined). Nintendo has released 38 games in 2008 (from Wii, DSi and WiiWare combined). So, as you can see, Sony does NOT make more games than both Microsoft and Nintendo put together.

sony does have more studios, certainly they are working in other thigns besides games.

so you want them to only work on first party games and not try to get any 3rd parties? Because honestly, both companies make some of the best games on their respective consoles and instead of acknoledge that fact you'd rather just act as though they make none?
This is an insane thread. I'm going to go play some Uncharted, Killzone 2, MLB09: the Show, and SotC. Or wait, I guess I won't since obviously Sony never made any of those.
