Sounds terrible to me. Real 'bottom of the class' concept.

Jack the Ripper is a fascinating (if horrible) character, making him a hero against demonic whores (only rational I can see for the actual whore killing) in a generic action title is an awful idea.

Give me a really dark, atmospheric take on London, with me as the inspector on his trail, perhaps look at the many excellent sources to drawn on (or flat out rip off) like Alan Moore's graphic novel, and I'd be very interested.

But this - boring use of one daft idea to justify another generic title by the sound of it.

I agree with what you said completely. If they wanted to do something in that setting, they should have adapted an HP Lovecraft story, or something with the Necronomicon.

You're too kind, sir.  I hope they do deliver something interesting.  When I think 'Victorian London' and 'Jack the Ripper' I imagine a setting as cool as Rapture in Bioshock, an amazing setting that could serve as the backdrop for something interesting.  I'd love a great Lovecraft game, too.  I played one on PC (gone blank on title) and it was really good, except the engine / graphics were weak and it had some terrible bugs here and there, but the plot and atmoshpere was excellent.  I think it was on 360 too, or maybe Xbox?

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

What exactly would be wrong with a game based on Hitler? -Even playing as Hitler? Yes, it would offend certain people who may have been affected by his actions, but there would be nothing inherently immoral or wrong about such a game, given that morality is nothing but relative subject judgments and is not absolute.

I'm frankly quite sick and tired of war games where you always play as the American fighting some sort of "evil" foreign threat ending with American victory. Of course it is done that way because it is primarily Americans playing these games, but I think a game from, for example the Iraqi perspective where you play as a freedom fighter driving out the American forces from the country would make a very interesting and fresh title as well.

And certainly playing as Hitler would make a very interesting game as well, perhaps if you "win" the game would go on to show the effects of your actions, the scale of human destruction and depravity (which would be far greater if he had won) -making for a quite thought provoking climax. Or perhaps giving you the possibility to enact your own sick policies afterwards. This is slightly off topic, but I'm tired of game companies playing it safe and adhering to some non existent standard f morality.

I just feel its more uncreative garbage that EA doesn't think can be successful with having the main character as a John Smith, just so people at least already heard of the character.

EA  is making a "Jack the Ripper" game in which he is a hero....

What next ? - "Hitler : The Saviour of Jews" ?

From Eurogamer -

"EA studio Visceral Games' interpretation of Jack the Ripper will cast the legendary British serial killer as a hero.

Instead of disembowelling prostitutes, Mr Ripper will save innocent people from demons and vampires, using an exaggerated array of weaponry and some kind of time-slow ability.

That's what "sources" told Destructoid after the Jack the Ripper game was leaked by the LA Times.

Visceral's approach to the material may infuriate "Ripperologists", but sounds similar to the hack-and-slash treatment the studio has given Dante's Divine Comedy in Dante's Inferno.

Do remember that a Jack the Ripper game is still unconfirmed by EA, however convincing the evidence may appear."

It might be this then http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1186353/

A New Spinoff from buffy with Giles from his young days where he supposedly goes by the name "the ripper" :p

Thanks, man.  That's the one.  Crap graphics, but great story and atmosphere.  Horrible bug litteraly 3 minutes from the completion of the game that could prevent you finishing, though - that was nasty.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

The man just got a bad rep. He really was a hero in some ways
