Forums - Sales - Wal Mart scaling back DVD displays latest blow to Blu Ray

Like I asked in the blu ray thread. DVD sales will be down a lot this year. While Blu Ray is growing. Profits and sales is still big between the two though.

Kids movies on DVD! Honestly its the best value, kids can happily watch them 10-20 times. Parents are foolish to deny a movie tantrum!

I agree with this. Going to have to own some kid movies in physical form, so one day my kids can drive me insane by watching them.

I've seen families in public, restaurants etc bringing out portable DVD players to entertain their kids and keep them quiet.  Its simple and easy to use, and less hassle for the moms.  I dont think mom wants the trouble of learning how to download the movies ahead of time and putting it in a portable media device.  Raising kids can be hectic and nothing is simplier than just grabbing the portable DVD player and just grabbing a movie.

This got me thinking... have they made any portable Blu-Ray players?  Are they even necessary since such a small screen won't benefit from high resolution?

I only buy 3 or 5€ DVDs.... that's about the price of a rental so....

Last movie I recall buying full price was Dark Knight... I don't think i've seen another movie I felt deserved this since then...

@axum

ahh yes i remember when blu-ray had one whole isle to themselves at best buy...all the movies clumped up together not knowing which movies were new release or not...

now they got a whole section for themselves....new release section....tv....drama...etc...

movies are too expensive.....

I usually don't buy DVD's unless its a must have movie. I think the last one I bought was The Dark Knight.....

I always rent movies.

It was always pretty obvious that Blu-Ray's growth wouldn't make up for DVD's decline, due to download services, netflix and the like.

But more importantly BluRay marketshare to DVD Market share is declining to. It's around 6% last week. Last year this time it was 13%

That's not at all a fair comparison... Iron Man released this week last year and had done extremely well relative to most blu-rays.
