Wow ... Simply Wow ... While I think this is one of the best secret give away I have heard of it also seems a little desperate; the only thing more desperate would be to force every Sony movie to include a PS3 and every Sony Music rapper to rap about one ...

Actually I think Europe actually deserved this lol, this is the 3rd time Sony pushed back their launch in Europe. And im meaning for the PS1 and PS2 launches not that Sony pushed the PS3 launch back 3 times.

instead of Sony subsidizing the free TV givaway they could just drop the price by a small amount, say $10.... I would prefer more moderate policies if I was in charge of Sony, personally. Free 48-inch TV's? What effect will THAT have 2 or 3 months from now? ...

But this isn't about Europe, and it is not about High Definition Televisions ... This is about Sony attempting to control the spin that will be put on a story that will be in every newspaper, and every tv news broadcast tomorow. I'm reasonably sure some (clever) marketing drone pointed out that they had two choices for what would be written tomorow: If they did nothing: "The PS3 launched in Europe today and didn't sell out; the PS3 has been selling poorly around the world compared to the amazingly popular Nintendo Wii and it is suspected that Sony eats babies" But if they give away a free TV: "The PS3 launched in Europe today and the first 100 people in line at the Launch in london recieved a free 46 inch HDTV from Sony that retails for 2,000. I bet those guys in line felt the got quite the deal"

I wonder if they made this decision before or after they realized the crowd was so small?

I'm sure that they were gone with all of the TV's before too long...If I worked in that store, I would phone a buddy to go there and bring back one of those free HDTV's they were giving away. For $600, you can get something worth over a $1000....just pay some guy you trust $100 to get it for you and sell the TV on EBay. Easy money.

That's gotta help their bottom line ;) If every PS3 came with a free TV... I'd even consider getting one :)

I'd get a free HD TV anyday in the week. Well remember too, that the PS3 there is going for over 800 bucks (because of some sort of tariff or tax or something in the European union... any europeans here know what that's all about?)
