You can't take out the ability to play Blu-Ray movies without taking out the ability to play PS3 games...so...yeahhh.

PS2 sales are probably their biggest income at this moment, another reason why they were so stupid to remove the BC entirely... and I express that nicely.

I took the engine out, to make noise-free. With added effect, it uses no gas. 

PS2 games are indeed Sony's biggest income, however if their success means handicapping their future ambitions of both the PS3 and Blu-Ray then they're stuck in a rough situation in which should be more important to them. Sony obviously has no intention of giving up on the PS3 or Blu-Ray and knows the PS2 can't sustain them forever so I don't find this logic to be so alien really. It's also not merely a matter of waiting for the PS2 to become unprofitable either as the PS3's success will depend largely on establishing itself as soon as possible.

I know the OP didn't exactly orchestrate the theory terribly well but the fact still remains that in many regards the PS2's undying success has been the PS3's biggest problem since its launch.
