Forums - Sales Discussion - The bigger question is.. will Wii outsell ps3?

@ rafichamp:

Because, unlike Xbox 360 and ps3, Wii is a product of succes. People want a Wii, and in this case 50$ pricecuti is resounding

I'm sure Wii will outsell hd consoles in Europe and in America. If Nintendo makes in japan a bundle with tales of graces and light blue wii, And a bundle with final fantasy cc and white wii, then there wont be a problem there .

And NSMB Wii with a red wii bundle.

The Wii will probably win this coming week but I think the PS3 has a shot at winning in 2 weeks when Uncharted 2 releases...

doesn't Mario and Sonic release that same week?

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I expect Wii to outsell PS3 in the Americas and Others. As to Japan, it looks as though that may not happen, or this is going to be a close race, at least not until new bundles are offerred.
All this is based on looking at various points in time at this week's Amazon sales charts in various countries, admittedly not a very reliable source.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

looking at Amazon for Japan is extremely unreliable, first Wii is split into 2 separate SKU's black and white, so that skews it, also DSi is nowhere in the top 20 in the Japanese amazon site, even though it sells the best week in and week out, far better than the PS3

I don't understand when people say the Wii won't get a boost from it's price drop, using the logic that "people could already afford it at $250".

I am speaking from the point of view of someone who has a full time income, but buying a console is not an issue of affordability for me, it's just a matter of whether i'm willing to buy it at a specific price point. I mean as long as you have some kind of job it's only going to take a few weeks to save the money for any console. I could easily walk out and buy a PS3 tomorrow but I'm not going to because i don't have the time for more games at the moment and because i have other things i would rather spend 500 dollars (I live in Australia) on right at the moment.

Now if the PS3 dropped to $400 or $300 i might change my mind but it's not because i can suddenly afford it whereas i previously couldn't. It's just gotten to the point that in the scheme of things that are competing for my money on a weekly basis, i feel it's worth it.

i expect wii to outsell the ps3 by a hell of alot from now on. can't see ps3 selling more than the wii now for the rest of the year.

adam84 - FFXIII release week should see PS3 > Wii

But yeah, Wii should be ahead of PS3 next week

What kind of a silly thread is this. Of course Wii will outsell PS3. It has and will continue to do so.

I find it strange that some people get all giddy when PS3 manages to outsell Wii for a few weeks and proclaim it to be the turning point from which on PS3 will triumph over Wii, when it's glaringly obvious why it's sold more for a short time and that it obviously won't last.
