is htat the free AVG version because it got slammed on download.com user reviews and many of them pointed to other AVs I picked Avira and it seems to do the job well

Didn't realise it had been released. Getting it now.

Says symantec detects 80%. I smell falsities.

Edit: Avast! Home (free for 14 months) ftw!!!

I had AVG too. AVG might block a lot of things, but it also blocks stuff it shouldn't.. One of the problems I had is that i ALWAYS lost connection when I visited kotaku.com. I removed AVG, and my connection never fails me when visiting that site, so it really was AVG. My X360 still had connection so it wasn't my router or anything. There are probably more websites out there that cause these issues with AVG. Another friend of mine had her download speed reduced drastically. It was as low as 1% of her total download speed and after removal, her connection was normal. I think AVG still has some bugs it needs to work out.

Avira would be my free AV of choice or it was until the MS product. I think I will be trying that out now. Avira is my free choice primarily because I can skip the registration and it does not need any annual renewal such as Avast and AVG.

That said on the whole the free ones are generally crippled in some way. This does not sound like it is the case with the MS product. Interesting that it should beat the likes of Kaspersky, Sophos and Fesecure all AV products which are good AV products.

I have Avast Pro Edition never have problems with any viruses since, before I had AVG, it was annoying, I was having so many false positives, AVG's UI is not so user friendly, kinda confusing..

So from the memory hog that is Norton I upgraded to AVG and now I use Avast pro; Avast pro edition comes with its own anti-spyware included and it gets the job done for me.
