Nice change from the usual negative crap that gets posted about the 360 by people who don't own one.

Didn't you look at his signature?

What about it?

@Huaxiong: It's confusing because the premises are twisted due to following a non sequitur. You yourself are being very logical with your assertions, it's only that the point to begin with is false.
Let me give you an example:
Hardcore gamers play first person shooters, along with other genres. In the specific assertion, FPS is used as a demonstrative example, because of its current popularity. Then, the non sequitur follows (haha):
Therefore people who play first person shooters along with other genres are hardcore gamers.
Extending further to:
And people that don't fit the description are not.

The first assertion is true. But it's not claiming that this would be the definition, it just points out what the current stereotype is.
In the second example, the stereotype is turned around to be the definition and the third is using the prior example to rule others out (this was important part).

With objective appoach, we get very different results:
There are two kinds of people, those who play games and those who don't.
Out of the people who play games, there are people who have played games earlier and those who haven't.

This was very simple way to define the new market and the core market.
Then we need to look at the gamers.

Out of the new gamers and old gamers we have people who play [insert a genre] games.
Out of the new gamers and old gamers we have people who play games a lot and a little.
Out of the new gamers and old gamers we have people who are very skilled and people who are not skilled at all.
Out of new gamers and old gamers we have people who are enthusiastic about videogames and people who aren't.

Basically we have only two objective measures for hardcore, which are the amount of time spent and the level of enthusiasm.

Usually when someone starts to talk about hardcore, that someone is using him- or herself and specific gaminghabits as the definition. Since most of the hardcore gamers are fans of certain game(s) or genre(s), the games and genres they don't play, or play only casually, are viewed as casual games. From a Nintendogs/lifesim fan view, shooters and RPG:s are viewed as casual games. Or, if you ask RubangB for ten most hardcore games, he's likely going to give you a list that consists of games more than 15 years old.

Basically the whole hardcore and casual talk is only about people expressing their own preferences and using them as the definition of what's hardcore and what isn't.
The hardcore spreads into the mainstream gamer with the logic used in the examples at the beginning of this post. Which, as said, is fallacious.

It's pretty obvious that you, or a gamer like you, would buy Elite instead of Arcade because of the DLC and you, or a gamer like you, are a casual family friendly game player (i play family friendly games casually -> they are casual games).
However, someone who plays games more than you do, could skip the whole DLC, sell the game after it's beaten and spend the money to a new game. If you play a lot of games, DLC is very bad investment, since you can't get any of the money back by reselling the DLC. When this casual gamer, you're speaking of, would benefit hugely with Elite, as opposed to Arcade, because of XBLA, where you can find better selection of family friendly games and still be able to play the boxed games.

Also, the casual gamer who (in your example) bought the Arcade, could have been buying it and the games, for his/her hardcore gamer kids.

He has (or at least he uses) both an XB360 and a PS3, so most likely he doesn't hate either.

The best post on this thread. I'm devoid of confusion now. Thanks.

Hardware Sales, 10th Oct 2009

79,925 3,445 55,136

Now that things are getting to the same old story is fair to post that the 360 sales are about in the same levels were they've been for this generation, which is a little less than half of the Wii's sales.

Not closing up at all, sometimes it reaches Wii's levels with some good system seller/bundle/promotion, and some other times Wii outsells the double of the 360 sales for similar reasons.
