Forums - Gaming - How the Ps3 can leave it's competitor's behind!! Megaman2 explains....

Let me address this thread.

Firstly obviously the price cut is responsible for the surge in sales its common sense, Im talking about the ps3 slim as that is the current ps3 console in production. hardcore Sony fans already have a ps3 so there is no need to upgrade, the ps3 slim was introducted to save manufacturing costs! Really needed to address that!

Never once did I state that those games are hardware pushing games, I was merely looking at the quality of each game. Final fantasy 13 should move some considerable hardware in Japan so its not just GT5. Secondly when I said 'battle between the Wii and ps3' I did not mean in terms of total sales in that region I meant who would the holiday season between both consoles.

Without question the introduction of the ps3 slim prompted Nintendo to reduce the price of the wii, The ps3 was outselling it and the consoles sales were dropping as for the X360 reducing the price a few days after the ps3 slim announcement is very suspicious.

Dont be so quick to jump to conclusion, I would appreciate a reply!

I just wish people would stop refering to the slim as the cause of success. You kinda did it, and someone else in the thead did it. You and others might translate Slim into pricecut in these manners, but I don't aswell as many other people. It really seems like people are saying the slim caused the increase in sales. If people say that often other people might believe it.

Forgot about FF13. I just don't like the way you phrase things, I guess. You make everything sound so definite. I think Wii will outsell PS3 in holiday Japan, but we can agree to disagree on that point.

I really do question the PS3 price cut prompting the Wii price cut. Price cuts don't just happen overnight, they involve months of planning.Wii's dropping sales imply that it wasn't the PS3 pricecut that caused the Wii pricecut, don't they? Not that an expected PS3 cut wasn't a factor, but I disagree with the way you said it as idf it was the ONE factor in the Wii price cut.

I'm all for optimism but you're really overdoing it. The way you say things just bugs me. You make predictions and say them as if they already happened, like some kind of prophet.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

lool I dont mean to sound/phrase definite, I do believe that the ps3 price cut was a factor along with the slump in sales. I was not really predicting only explaining what Sony needs to do to stay ahead of the competition. Clearly you don't approve with a thread focusing on ps3 success so therefore its best to leave it at that, cheers.

final fantasy 13 ftw!!

Again, this is a strategy that some Nintendo fan could have cooked up back in late 2003 (or whenever it hit $100, forget exactly). Tried-and-true first-party franchises aren't enough. Not without some big hook at any rate.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

@burgerstein

Slim + Pricecut is the cause of the PS3 recent sales boom.

I will put the pricecut as the major factor but by no means disregared the slim model as not being a big part of it.

Why? Because Sony sold the slim as a "new" system.

With only a pricecut on the "fat" PS3 that would have been impossible.

I therefore cannot agree with you that people should stop refering to the slim as the reason for this "success".

I do agree with you that there are many people that talk with extreme certainty about an unknown future.

Studies seems to point to it being a gamers thing. If your predictions are proven wrong you make more wild predictions start all over again, like being killed in a video game.

The ps3 first and second part studios are solid for this generation!

Now THAT would be amazing.  I don't think they will be able to lower costs below $249 until 2011 at the earliest.  They have reached the point where the costs to produce will decrease slower and slower and there since they went Slim way early this generation, there isn't really much they can do to "re-Slim" it to further reduce costs.

Hopefully I will have my PS3 Slim by February or so of next year, but with how busy I am lately, I may not have time to support all the awesome games on both HD consoles coming out early next year
