They're heading down the road to pure play, I wonder it'll work for them. |
doing this will cut costs greatly. wont have to fork out for manufacturing costs anymore. PS3's price should go down quicker.

I was wondering if by next year the cell chip becomes a most have for video games does that mean that microsoft can buy the chip from toshiba and put it iin their next xbox. Because i think the cell chip would do wonderful things once developers figure out how to use it.

Toshiba actually helped develop the Cell microprocessor.
They were called the STI alliance (Sony, Toshiba, IBM).
So it probably could be sold to Microsoft. But then Microsoft would be paying Sony money.

I'd say this just confirms that the Cell really isnt going anywhere and that they have no intent on using it in the PS4

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"
It's not really bad or good news. Just standard business practice for these things to happen. It could be good for Sony if they still receive royalties.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Are you saying that his article is wrong? Or are you saying that the artical is correct and you just added a link to a more "legit" site?

More legit news? Try clicking through the link on Kotaku to the Reuters article (maybe you've heard of them) if you want your "legit news".
PS. Don't be an ass. Don't try to slam me when you won't even take three seconds to check the original source article.

It's just an issue of semantics and nothing more. If a company that previously was the sole producer (sony) or at least the one in charge of production, and then goes into a joint-venture with another company (toshiba) it will pretty much have to give a portion of the profits to toshiba in exchange for their $$$ to build factories and technical expertise in making quality semiconductors cheaper, and I know that you're an economic genius and all so you probably realize that when you go from being the only company to profit to one sharing in profits you are basically selling a part of your company to another.
btw, I have a degree in finance so I know what i'm talking about
