Forums - Sony - SONY did the right think with GT5

I felt like Sony tried to do this last year with Killzone 2 being pushed back to 2009... it didn't really seem to help.

Actually given the price of the PS3 in 2008 and its weak momentum, I think they would've released Killzone 2 in 2008 if they could. Remember, the PS3 is a lot stronger now.

Sony had similar thinking with Killzone 2, not wanting it to divide the market with Resistance 2. Some event thought it was a great idea Sony releasing the game during a normally dead time of the year. Well, it didn't work out this way.

I will say that, while not necessarily a great idea, it does make sense Sony wouldn't release two Gran Turismo game this year.

Killzone 2 wasn't PlayStation's BIGGEST franchise. Killzone 2 doesn't hold a candle to Gran Turismo, although it STILL sold 2mill copies WW.

I know, but with GT being such a big franchise, it's almost like they really shouldn't hold it back (if possible). I just don't see Uncharted 2 and Ratchet driving console sales over the holidays... Nobody really bought a PS3 for the first Uncharted and Ratchet. Gran Turismo 5 this Christmas would create some absolutely beastly sales, only a complete fool would say Forza can compete with Gran Turismo (in terms of sales).

Actually, scratch that. GT5 will make for some beastly console sales no matter when it releases.

Currently playing: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NBA2k11, Metal Gear Solid, Picross 3d

How did it not work out? The game didn't flop and started 2009 off good for PS3. It even saw a spike on system sales for the week. Again, how did it not work out?

Also, I don't think some of you understand the difference between a franchise like Killzone and one like Gran Turismo. Gran Turismo is PlayStation's LARGEST franchise.

Well said.

I think, as I've noted in other threads, that (assuming GT5 could have launched in 2009 anyway from a development point of view) having GT5, FFXIII and Slim all hit in one big mass would be overkill, particularly in Japan.

Sony has enough titles I would argue, with FFXIII sure to regain them some marketshare in Japan and the Slim and new price point likely to keep sales lively, to push GT5 along with other titles to early 2010.

That way they give each big hitter the chance to do it's thing without affecting other Sony titles and give themselves more chance of an extended run of good sales.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Truly reasonable!

Well, he isn't called Reasonable for nothing.

-_-...He also said he can keep working on it as long as he wants (POLISH, in other words), and that it's only a matter of time. I don't see why people are so pessimistic about this...

I somehow get the feeling that Polyphony wanted to see Forza3 (or Froza) to see whether they will be upping the title. Especially after the PSP GT feedback and reviews. Screwing GT5 will put them in a bad position.

Overall though Im happy about this - my Christmas wish-list is already quite full with U2 GoW Collection and others.
