Forums - Sony - Can Uncharted 2 have the same effect on PS3 as FFVII had on PSX?

One question is yet to be asked though...

Would any of you really think that FFVII could sell 10 million units prior to its release?

I think the actual answer from all you would be a simple NO.

I think we all understand your point. But lets be honest. In the economic times, in the Wii era, 360 era and PS3 original stigma......to even entertain the idea that UC2 will have a global impact like FF7 is pretty crazy.

Why cant we just accept some classic gems can exist in their own rights without having to live up to one another.

Regardless of whether or not UC2 becomes a phenomenon lets all just enjoy it as it is and not try to compare it.

Anyways, we cant compare direct impact since there were many different variables then as there are now. For instance UC2 possibly having over a 96 when all is said and done on metacritic in this day and age isnt comparable to a FF7 release.....just too many different variables ot even have a discussion on how to compare the 2 different impacts on the market, generation or industry.

And the hype machine goes into overdrive!

and someone will "remember" how "all the Sony fans" were claiming that U2 would be as big as FFVII.  It's the eternal marry go round that makes me wish I could thrust my fist through the computer and slap some people.

And "that person," whoever they turn out to be, will be just as wrong as the select few people who claim Uncharted 2 will move loads of PS3's, or that ODST would move lots of 360's.

From what I've read of Uncharted 2 it sounds like it's shaping up to be a pretty great game, and I have no doubt that it will move plenty of software, probably more than the original.  However, same console sequels just aren't big hardware movers.

There is only one game that Uncharted 2 should be compared to, and that game is Uncharted 1.

Not a chance.

I think it will move a few consoles because of it's must-haveness to it.

I'm beginning to think it could move some hardware too...

Especially if it has that "massive" ad campaign. It should shift a little hardware.

I'm already seeing the threads now!

In order for U2 to move hardware, it firstly needs to actg like FF7 did prior to its release. Make a huge campaign ad, and attract people from other consoles, as well as new comers.

Hell Yeah.

I have doomed all Ps3 fans?

Yep

No Uncharted 2 won't move any units. I say U2 can sell 3 million copies.

Actually, for Uncharted 2 to move hardware, it needs to sell one PS3 that someone bought just for the game.

I know, just being too technical....

So for every game sold, a PS3 must be sold?
