Forums - Gaming - No Modern Warfare 2 demo or beta before launch

A bit of a bummer, but it looks like there wont be a demo or beta before launch. I don't recall the PS3 or 360 version having a singleplayer demo, but the PC version did and it included the singleplayer level 'The Bog'.

The original Modern Warfare had a hugely popular beta/demo. No doubt helped sell a few million copies of the game. So will Modern Warfare 2 do the same thing? Not. A. Chance.

Developers Infinity Ward have said there are "no [plans] for a Demo before launch", because "the entire team is focused on polish all the way up to ship of the full game". And there'll be no beta, either. Though these days they're pretty much the same thing.

Which is PR speak for "we know you're all going to buy the game anyway, so we're not even going to bother".

I loved being in the World At War beta last year. It's what got me into COD in the first place. However, if this means a tighter package all around, I can live without it and just have a better game come November. I'm expecting this game to hold my entire online multiplayer gaming interest for at least 12 months or possibly even 24 months, so it needs to be damn good.

The last line in the OP is basically what I was gonna say lol.... with over 2 million pre-orders across the 360 and PS3 already, there really is no point in having a "demo" of the game and spoiling the fun for those who are eagerly awaiting the complete package and not some beta version of a single level or map in the game.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

The beta is actually for the mutliplayer to test for bugs. Normally they do a public beta, but they decided to do a closed beta with Activision employees and industry people this time.

I have been a beta tester for the last 2 COD games and I must admit this is a shame for I was looking to be in a third beta test. I wonder why they aren't going to at least have a stress test for the servers. I guess they decided paying for all of the bandwidth it would take to send everyone the beta just wasn't worth it.

I am looking for the multiplayer to hold me over for a while. I decided not to buy World at War just because I didn't care as much about it on the beta as I did for COD4:Modern Warfare.

It's activision they just like Nintendo belive it's demos are the tools of Satan and consumer shouldn't even think he can get any entertainment for free.

I thought it was probably Activision pulling the no beta strings as well.  I just hope this doesn't effect the quality of the game overall.  The game certainly looks amazing so I would hate for a few minor bugs (that could have been fixed with a beta) to muck it up.

no problem for me

the waw beta got me to skip the game, as i kept quitting it to play cod4

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Wii Friend Code: 4094-4604-1880-6889

Makes a lot of sense. It was to be expected.

Why would they waste time (and money) when so many buyers will buy it without questions?

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

asking for a demo/beta is questioning Infinity Ward's Godly powers to make the best FPS's.

everyone knows the game is going to live up to the expectations, so why bother with a beta?
