Someone I know wants a Blu-Ray player, and I'm thinking of getting them one as a gift. My question is should I just go ahead and get them a PS3 (They own a Wii and 360, so they're gamers) this way they have the player, and a system to use if they wish. Or are there, I dunno, latest gen blu-ray's out there or something I should be looking at instead?

PS3 is a better Blueray player than most since it has an hd and gets updates regularly. With the new price point and Dell discount or Sony style deal its a no brainer.

Get them the PSTriple. Works great and they'll have all the systems. Also it get's fw updates.

Hell, the PS3 is the Blu-ray standard. G4TV says it all of the time.

If they only want to watch Blu-Ray movies than for sure buy a stand-alone Blu-Ray player since they are MUCH more quiet.

If you want to know the quality difference between the PS3 and a stand-alone Blu-Ray player, than the PS3 is doing it's job. In picture quality there hardly will be a difference, about audio quality i don't know. If you want to see a difference in picture quality, than maybe the high-end Blu-Ray players are better, but don't expect wonders.

Yes it is, but now a days(it was not like this until recently) you can get a better BR player for cheaper. This is only if you want to pass on the games tho.

To say the PS3 is the best Blu-Ray player out there is... well, silly. However, with that said, it IS one of the better Blu-Ray players on the market, and if they're gamers you may as well get it for them.
