Actually I had a SEGA genesis. After six months the power cord broke. We went to the store to try and buy a new one no dice. So we called Sega, and asked them about getting a replacement. This was the reply we got buy a new genesis. Apparently the cords had a tendency of falling apart and setting fire to houses. So Sega had stopped manufacturing. Understandable I suppose, but the kicker was that the new power cords would not fit the old consoles which we bought. They had never bothered to engineer a replacement for the older consoles. So the answer we got was buy an entirely new system.
Obviously that was the last time we bought a Sega console. Not only had the hardware been dangerous, but they couldn't be bothered to rectify the problem. Needless to say we were all shocked by this attitude. We eventually resolved the problem on our own. We futzed a power drill power cord to do the job. Ironically it was the incorrect voltage but still worked. Was that good or bad I am not sure.
Yes some people have a legitimate gripe with Sega. Till this day I am not sure whether the operator was utterly incompetent, or whether Sega actually decided that this was a good idea. Regardless I have never had a issue with customer care with other console manufacturers.
Just thought it was worth sharing.
