Forums - Gaming - sony just did a Wii HD.

Just because the casuals are portrayed as being stupid, doesn't mean that they are actually stupid. They'll figure what the original is and what a copycat is. That's also the reason why third party Wii games which imitate Nintendo games come nowhere close in sales.

So if the casuals aren't exactly willing to buy copycats on a console they already own, what makes you think that they would by an entire new system for a copycat game?

What I actually expect to happen is that Sony's motion controls will work counterproductive for the PS3. First, hardcore gamers will be annoyed that money is invested in games not aimed at them and second, people who are actually interested in motion controlled games will realize the superiority of the Wii controller and the size and variety of the Wii software library. Instead of garnering additional PS3 sales, it's more likely that Sony's wand will generate more Wii sales by signaling to the market that motion controls are here to stay.

Ban this man seriously can you believe some of the stuff he writes?

Customers are not stupid?  Developers shouldnt make cheap rip offs that dont sell because the customers dont want it.  Ridiculous.

It is more likely to benefit in families where the adults are into gaming other than for the sake of joining in somehting with the kids.  One of my friends bought a Wii since the kids wanted motion controls.  He doesn't really like it or most of the games though, I mentioned this to him and he said if enough childrens games used it he would probably get a PS3 and get rid of the Wii.  PS3 has quite a few kids games, Disney movies, LEGO games and such (these are what his kids really love, the LEGO), if these get support for it I think more families with knowledgable gamer parents may chose a PS3.

Yeah tell him to buy a PS3 so he can buy shovelware for his kids.  Classy move.

The PS3 is a TERRIBLE choice for a family console.  Most of its best software are made for an older audiance.  No one has ever tried to argue it once that the 360 or PS3 are an ideal family console until NOW when Microsoft and Sony are trying to copy Nintendo now, but they dont the SOFTWARE to back this statement up.

Sony and Microsoft completly dumped the family and kids market.  Most of there money goes towards there older audiances games and it shows.  No one here is willing to hype there family friendly stuff,  unless it brings potential to get back at that Nintendo *shakes fist*

Other anecdotal evidence from VGC users suggests that gamer parents like that bought a Wii for their kids and an HD console for themselves. I think they like it that they don't have to share their console with their kids.

Also, kids do like Nintendo games and what kids want is what parents should buy. At least when it comes to things which are rather cheap like video games. Therefore I don't see the scenario you describe to become common.

@Xoj: Developers who think that they absolutely need HD most likely aren't able to create a great game in the first place. Nowadays video game hardware is powerful enough to make nearly any game concept possible.

indeed. but consider the average 360 perfomance. and we have sadly a market of lazy developers, but in good hands hardware like 360 or ps3 can truly shine and we see games like gears 2, uncharted 2, and killzone 2.

while graphics are not everything are a integral part, many people pulled down RE 4 ps2 because inferior GC version. just because of the graphics.

@dino, thats why, this thread it about , wil microsoft/sony able to get a part of cake of kids/casual market?, and handle both markets .

from the start of this generation, many wii owners had said RE 5 was a downgrade because the lack of motion controls, now sony got it wand controller and finally we see a RE 5 with a good pointer.

it's kinda interesting because many we hoping to see a RE 5 wii edition, now they got it just not from nintendo but sony.

not only that, sony have managed to get many of it games patched, like LBP to use co op and strategic way very similar to mario galaxy but adding more team work and strategy.

and it got a big line up of third party support, and enough non-casual games on the market and soon to be released. (though i think depends on the taste).

sony ps3 would be able to turn itself into that much called wii HD?.

from what i see games like grand slam tennis are making the jump into the wand, and probably many "wii fit like" games do the same, not only the offer the same motion controls 1-1 tracking, but also augmented reality, and head tracking, face and voice recognition in HD graphics.

what will nintendo do for the next console? what kind innovation will they bring, even microsoft natal it's starting to get support, it sound like next gen will be interesting.

many people say nintendo got the casual loyalty, casuals don't have loyalty, they go and get the new things and stuff.

i'm guessing you have not seen the video of the game being played by a capcom representitive at TGS. If you had then would see that RE5 Alternate is a far cry from RE 4 Wii edition. But this is actually not why you post this tidbit. What you really want to do is start a flame war. You are a sad, sad person.

*sighs* i was hoping people like you didn't show in this thread, it worked the same, it did 1-1 pointing perfectly, RE 5 alternative still in development also.

same for the wand and the DS3+wand it's the cheapest option so said capcom representative.

but it looks like people will label RE 5 inferior just because isn't on the Wii, even ignoring all the other technlogies that work together and focusing "sony/microsoft are copycats".

Sony and Microsoft are copycats

Nintendo developed it and implemented it.

Now Sony and Microsoft are ducktapping motion controls on to ther system LOL

It needs PS3 fit to break into any of the Wii's sales.

And that wont happen.

we don't know that yet, same goes for natal, it depends on the support it gets and the marketing both companies give to the product.

depending on their studios muscle to support the platform and third party efforts how it will success.

all that aside what if it does, it's not sony only but microsoft. what will nintendo do if they got their thunder stole?

Nintendo has this gen sealed. Sony and MS won't be able to tap into the Wii market with their accessories, because they are just that; addon accessories that will likely be glossed over and recieve little developer support. Sony and MS do not know how to market to the masses like Nintendo currently does. However, Nintendo NEEDS to come up with a new disruptive innovation next gen, or they WILL be outgunned. Nintendo needs to keep distancing themselves from Sony and MS as much as posible and release something completely new each time they release a console, because Sony and MS WILL keep copying Nintendo. However, as long as nintendo keeps Sony and MS on their toes with new innovations for each new console and keep them appealing to the masses, they will stay on top.

It's been pointed out that Sony had this techology even during PS2 years. Motion (head) tracking has been on the PC for years which was first designed for the handicap. It's the same as saying Nintendo is copying Sony and Mircosoft if their next console happens to be HD. Again PC games have been in HD for years.

in a perfect world right?, who says microsoft and sony can't innovate.

and in this market there isn't such thing as copying or nintendo it's copying atari because it have a console.

nintendo it's now the apple of consoles, people say they innovate but they only have taken something done before and apply into their market.

That certainly is an interesting way to look at it

It's just like the analog stick first started on the PC. Later Sony put duel analogs on their controllers in the middle of the PS years. Duel analog controller seems be to a big success in the last years of PS.

they were successfull that time even if they implemented it late, but they have all the third party support that wasn't part of nintendo "dream team" that actually produce many of gems we have now, joystick exist even from years of atari, but a way to use thumb wasn introduced til later, then nintendo implemented it into n64 controlller and many people say sony stole it from nintendo.

which was a old idea to behind with.

I like how you guys use examples of Nintendo copying: they made a console too, they are now using an optical medium too, they will copy the others by supporting HD resolutions with their next console. You are grasping for straws.

Nintendo's strength lies in taking existing technology and using it in a way never done before. It works so well for them because they are a hardware and a software company and that's the reason why Microsoft and Sony can't innovate in the same way as Nintendo does. They don't understand gaming like Nintendo. They look at it more from a technology perspective and focus on making existing things better, but they can't establish a new way to play games like Nintendo is able to.

Not that they would even risk it in the first place, their management wouldn't allow it. Only a company like Nintendo could pull off something like the Wii. Microsoft's and Sony's motion control devices will show just how much of an advantage Nintendo has when it comes to innovating in gaming.

microsoft i don't know, but sony was able to do it successful for more than 10 years. but felt when they try to go against microsoft.

but now they are more back into it roots.
