Forums - PC - The Sith Lords Restoration project beta is out now!

Running into sort of an odd problem here.

I mentioned earlier in the topic that since my disc drive has been acting up, I took the liberty of ripping .iso files of each of the four install disks and mounting them on a virtual drive in order to install and run the game. This has been working well so far.

But today I mounted the image for the first disc, booted up the game, and was told that I had the wrong disc inserted.

What the Hell?

Well, at least I know I can just stop. KOTOR1 is a masterpiece. It's sad KOTOR3 isn't actually KOTOR3. They are just using the name, IMO.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

I'm no help there, I'm afraid. What, if anything, have you changed since the last time you played it? Maybe you could try a system restore? I dunno: I'm pretty bad with computers.

What?

@noname:

I guess I'll just reboot and try again in a few minutes

He's insisting on a game that isn't really buggy. In a lot of ways I can't blame him: KOTOR II's really, really bad about bugs. Many of those bugs are even game-breaking. In almost any other title, I'd have ditched the game myself, because quite frankly this game had no business being released. It's development cycle was cut dramatically short by Lucasarts, and it shows.

That said, Strategyking, I really, really recommend continuing. KOTOR II is better than its predecessor in nearly every non-technical way. I'm not going to lie and say that II's bugs are not abundant and frustrating. But it's a testament to the title that it rises above things that would be fatal in any other title. If you haven't played it before, play this game all the way through: you won't regret it.

I thought that initially, but then it occurred to me that he may be talking about The Old Republic.

On second reading you may be right. There are definitely two unrelated trains of thought there.

Hey, you know what one of the most fun parts of this game is to me? Working out exaclty what weapons and upgrades I want to use.

I prefer two-weapon fighting in general for dealing damage, but I think that might be especially true in the case for HK-47.

When you use a keen scope and Master Sniper Shot, you multiply your critical range by eight times - since it caps at a 75% chance to crit, you only need a weapon with a critical threat range of 19-20 in order to get the most use out of these weapons. Now, obviously, in this particular case using two guns is better than using one, if only because you will be landing much more in terms of sheer number of critical hits.

Therefore, since there are a delightful number of weapons with a threat range of 19-20, the crit multiplier in theory become more important than the damage itself. So the best I can do is find two pistols with crit multipliers of 3 instead of 2, which shouldn't be too hard even with a 19-20 threat range. After that it's jsut a matter of plugging in the best power cells and firing chambers I've got in terms of boosting damage.

My question is this: if I add in a power cell that adds, say, 2d10 energy damage, does this bonus damage get added in before or after the critical damage is figured out?

Inquiring minds want to know!

From what I understand, afterwards. The critical multiplier affects base damage, not bonus damage.

And yes, blaster rifles got shafted yet again. Twin guns FTW.

So I need to look for the highest-damaging base damage I can find.... or close.

So I need to look for a gun with a 19-20 threat range, and the highest possible (base damage x crit multiplier) that I can find. After that I just pile on as much bonus damage as I can get.

It seems limited, to a degree, but it is still workable.

If there's a blaster rifle with high enough base damage with a 19-20 threat range, then it might actually be better than twin pistols! I will have to do some maths.
