Forums - Gaming - Factors contribute to the disproportion btw Xbox360 and PS3's sales in JP

What do you thing are the main fators that contribute to the extremely, ridiculously disproportion between Xbox 360's sale and PS3's sale in Japan? Is that because of the Japanese sense of nationalism? Does Japaneses clearly favor their country's production over a foreign one like Xbox 360? Although Americans do lean toward Xbox 360 rather than PS3, their sales in the US does not have the same disproportion that Japan does. Or is that beacuse Xbox lacks games that suit Japanese gamers' taste; I highly doubt that is a primary factor since in this generation, Microsoft has brought some good exclusive JRPGs to the Xbox 360 and is still unable have a high sale over a long period. There is another possibility that Japanese developers want to develop games for PS3, a Japanese product, more than for Xbox 360, a American product.

What do you guys think of this? Are there any other plausible explanation for this question?

Yet Apple products outsell their Sony competitors in Japan.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Well the PS3 is the follow up to PS2 which did good in America.

Xbox 360 is the follow up to the the Xbox which did bad in Japan, the next Xbox will probably do better in Japan, that is one factor I think

Apple, how shall i say it? They have a far more Japensese reputation than Microsoft in Japan. The general feeling in the Japenese market is strongly based towards their own products and reliability, then comes cost. Everything else has little imapct.

it's simple, America buys with it wallets, Japan buys with it's pride...always have always will.

So what you're saying is that they don't have to be American, just make products in ways that the Japanese like? How else would an American company have a "Japanese" reputation. That wouldn't be nationalistic or xenophobic at all though, would it.

It is also because of the size of the controllers. Xbox 360 controllers were designed with European and American (aka mainly Caucasian) audiences in mind. As such, the controller is catered to our hand size. As many people know, the average Asian person (Japanese people included) are smaller, and have smaller hands. Many Japanese people, quite literally can't grasp the Xbox 360 controller properly.

And no, I'm not joking.
